I don't think anyone can help, unfortunatly it comes down to us having to keep working at it.  I guess you could pray/think about it before going to sleep.

you're entering the hypnagogic state

i have the exact same problem though i usually don't get as far as to be inside the "mini dreams" and if i do i usually don't remember them.

you CAN enter the hypnagogic state while being focused and not unconscious and falling asleep... but how to do that is beyond me...

it's so easy to get there by starting the falling asleep process... but a lot of good that does since you can't stay focused.

but by trying to stay focused and slowly bring yourself down, you never really get anywhere... or at least... i don't.

So I can't really help you... the one thing that seems like it might work is to SIT UP when you feel you are about to lose it, or have lost it a few times are a really drowsy.. and move around some... walk a little bit maybe.. take deep breaths, enough to get yourself a little be refocused... then just sit/lie back down and try deep breathing breath awareness to stay focused and maybe you can make it in without falling asleep.

Perhaps if you tried having a more applied, systematic approach before projecting?

Try to relax, deeply and easily, with the will to get out, perhaps even setting a goal of having a stable experience (imagine something very specific) and don't go to sleep, keep your consciousness and try to just slip out when you feel you can do it.

Or try getting those vibrations, having something definite can help you "anchor" the experience, even more.

Maybe after a while (maybe the first time), you'll have more stability, you won't dream something, and then just lose it.

Okay, I've been doing the NEW energy circuit for about 20-40 min a day(it's helped a lot) and at night I try to leave my body by trying to feel like i'm rocking back and forth, then I got the idea to try rocking forward and back like the pirate ship ride at the amusemnt park.  What happens is I drift off to sleep and I'll immediatly dream that I'm wlaking along somewhere then I'll wake myself up(I don't do this on purpose) and it feels like I got slammed back into my bed.  I have no control in those dreams but it seems like they're at familiar places, usually where I've walked or ran that day.  This has only happened a few times since I've started trying this tech.  Am I projecting unconscously and does anyone know why I wake myself up while I'm dreaming like that?
