Title: Subconscious - Personal and Individual?
Post by: Xanth on May 06, 2012, 14:36:52
I've been wondering lately if a "personal" or "individual" area of consciousness even exists.
We all hold that illusion that we're all separate individuals... is this belief then being passed on in regards to this individual consciousness area belief that some of us hold/held?
Do we have any evidence to support the idea of an individual area of consciousness?  Or is this an idea that evidence can even be provided for?
I'm starting to think that it's very possible that all of consciousness is "collective" in that there are no "personal" areas.

Any thoughts?

Hi,
Breaking down our conciousness into only 2 dimensions. We are all basically contained within our own flatland perspective. However there exists the addition of one more dimension, lets assume this to be the subconcious which by its extra dimension is common to all and at the same time not part of the individual. As this subconcious exists outside the conciousness of the individual how can anyone say we are not all one, as this aspect is not plainly in view? Many flatlands can exist simultaneously without direct interaction yet the extra dimension of the greater can be an aspect common to all individuals.
Hope this makes sense.

I like to think of it as a highly frayed string, with very long threads steming from the point of fray. Yes, we were all the same rope at one point, and in a way, still are the same rope, but one would have to travel a long way to get from one fray to another. Confusing because you could lump all the ends tightly together, making it almost infinitly confusing from each individual fray's perspective, but surprisingly simply from the ropes.

In this simile, Each fray is("appears to be") an individual's subjective perspective with a high degree of telos based autonomy(intent).

Cheers,
Contenteo

I gotta back up NOY on this one.  while i support the idea of a "shared universal consciousness", we are all different frequencies of that consciousness.  sorry i can't be more insightful right now, but yea.

If ALL is ONE.
Then ONE is ALL.

(no real idea, I just thought it sounds pretty sharp, eh?)
