I've been thinking about this today, where lies the point where one is trying enough with the intent to allow one self to phase as compared to where the ego gets in the way and is trying to force something to happen which it does not have the ability to? I think I cross this boundary sometimes and it scuppers any attempt, like instead of coaxing myself in the mental state that allows me to phase I'm trying to force myself into these states. On the opposite spectrum then I won't try enough and nothing will happen, tis such a delicate process.
It's a delicate enough balance that you need to sit between the awake and sleep state.
Try not to worry too much about "forcing" or "allowing"... and focus on finding that balance.
... hmmm, I think that sounds rather cryptic. LOL

Well, I am under the impression that it is the misunderstandings of what we're consciously able to do compared to what is done by other parts of self. Trying to force a part of self to progress and perform an action doesn't work so well, however if we use what we're able to consciously do as a means of allowing the subconscious to perform its actions then we will find success. I just need to drill that through my head is all. *gets out electric screw driver*
Why not put the drill away and simply allow your mind/body/self to just go with the flow.
Let it do what it wants to do.

Are you able to do that Ryan?

I try REALLY hard at doing it, yes. <-- that's sarcasm, btw. :)
When I sit down to just meditate (straight up meditate or phasing practice)... I always allow my mind to take me where ever it wants to go.
I was using the rundown method, but I found lately that while visualizing my rundown, my attention tended to switch to something different.
So I've started lately to allow it to take me where ever... and see where I end up.
For example... I'd start my "beach" rundown... at which point my mind wants to go in a different direction, so it would randomly add me cycling or roller blading down by the beach instead... then I'd go with the flow so more and end up cycling through a small forest by the beach...
I wouldn't *force* myself to stay in any particular rundown. I'd just let my mind wander and take me where ever it wanted to go.

sorry Ryan, this will show its edited by me.. I actually thought I was quoting you but I must have modify instead, so yeah lol - Yin
That can be a good exercise. I've come to a number of good things just going with the flow like that.
It's also good to get used to centering your thoughts and bringing yourself back to your original intent. I would make the decision of what you're planning on doing before you start and hold to that intention during the exercise. In other words, if a rundown is your intention, always pull yourself back to your rundown when you slip. It'll get your mind used to being centered and focused on one particular thing.

then that is the extent to what you believe you're consciously able to do. I will say I have become a lot more passive compared to how I used to be..as you know.
No worries Yin. :)

not worried, it's just on other occasions I've seen when leaving it like that a witch hunt will begin
