Being Still

I wanted to know whether you try to be still when meditating/preparing to phase or project, I was wondering how important it is that you are completely still instead of moving to itch and if moving hampers your efforts.

It is not easy to be still for 40 minutes+ but I find that it's best and most interesting after doing so, I suspect it isn't necessary to be utterly still and I can't claim to have had much success because I haven't. Forcing yourself to be still might not be so healthy either.

If your trying to Astral project every physical movement will hinder you greatly since it will wake up your body again and focus your senses on it.

While meditating it is possible to move somewhat.. but its again better to be still.

Beeing still for 40 minutes+ can be achieved with some practise. Also you don't "force" yourself to be still... you just are. You will get into a "zone" where time doesn't matter anymore. By the way there is nothing unhealthy with beeing completly still for hours...... as long as you don't dehydrate yourself. But then again I have seen a documentary on a guy who meditated for months without drinking or eating.....

It is important to be still, but don't push yourself to the point that you no longer enjoy the practice. It's important to enjoy the practice so that you keep on practicing

I guess it could be considered as a sort of excersize.  When I am laying on my back completely still, my body has a tendency to really want to turn on it's side and drift off... that's how I sleep.  But since I don't sleep on my back, by staying in that position and not moving from it, which is very hard, I not only go through a bordom stage which must be passed for an OOBE but also I learn to stay focused and draw my attention on what is important rather than giving in to base urges.

some say in order to project your body needs to "fall asleep"

There is a stage that after lying still, your body feels both light as a feather yet strangely heavy at the same time.  I would work to achieve this first with some ease...I cannot project THAT easily tho ;)

I guess the stillness concept is a odd at first because you want to remain still but when you are actually projecting you think that you aren't but really are... make sense?
You have to become aware of the energy body...yeah don't ask me how :)  Think Abstractly

I know all to well that boredom phase...I generally get around it by doing visual or breathing mediation to ignite the flow of consciousness inorder to dream.  The technique I use varies all the time, for it really doesn't matter...for this particular state of awareness, whatever feels good to you is really all that matters.  I believe the matter of difficulty arises when we want results right now and we need to let of and just let intent happen.  Plant that seed of intent when beginning a meditation, just voice to yourself what your goal of the session is, and it will flow through you.  You may not get the results you are consciously looking for, but will get some nonetheless.. be patient.

It usually takes me about 10-20 mins to settle down, adjusting, squirming, scratching my nose or butt

I would just like to excentuate this detail. Basically, if it itches, scratch it. It's not about keeping perfectly still lest you upset the temporal vortex (gibberish) as opposed to you don't move because you're too distracted with what's going on in your head.
As it as written, now and forever shall be. In the name of the Stevo, amen.

Trancing can be interrupted by movement . Going to the toilet , leaving tissues close at hand , Sitting in a comfortable arm  chair with a comfortable temp in the room should eliminate most reasons to be distracted by the body .
Saying that , it is possible to Zen trance while moving , some do this while walking .
