Title: Using affirmations
Post by: Astralsuzy on April 30, 2013, 21:57:18
Hi all, does anyone use affirmations, such as, I am out of my body now, before you try to ap.  I thought it might be a good way to keep your mind alert and focused.

I use them very often. When I am lazy to do techniques before bed, I just say " I am remain aware as I fall asleep and achieve out of body". I put intention behind it, not just say it. It may not produce any results the first night, but if you do it several nights at some point you will become lucid during dreaming and from there take the lead.

I use them a bit, sometimes alternating with visualization... as I get really relaxed, I tend to stop verbalizing, it seems distracting.

I use them every single night and every time I Consciously attempt to AP.

I say at night "By my act of will, I RELEASE my focus over my physical body. PLEASE, TAKE ME to your desired destination. SHOW ME what I need TO SEE. TEACH ME what I need TO LEARN. I AWAKEN in my Dreams consciously aware, so I may LEARN FROM and ENJOY them. I become LUCID in them so I may INTERACT WITH THEM and REMEMBER THEM.

Every capitalized word I see as fading into the darkness before my eyes.

I have a 100% success rating with this. yes, you read that right, a 100% success rate.

I am not boasting here, I say that because out of every technique I have tried, this is the only one that works every single time.

I have been doing this every night for over a year now. Some nights I stay consciously aware right into the Dream. Others I awaken in the Dream, with full conscious awareness of what is occurring and I can then just play it through or alter it to my liking.

Lately I have been playing it through to see where the teachings lead to.

Thank you all very much.  This is good news.  It is very encouraging.  I am doing to do what you do.  I feel I am finally able to make an effort to try to ap in bed.  Before I wanted to go to sleep.  It took a long time but I kept persevering with it.  I have the determination to do it as well.  I listen to the sounds of the wind, ocean, rain on CD.  That helps to relax me.  Without listing to the CD I just lie there for a long time and nothing happens.  I do not feel very comfortable.   Lionheart you must be very happy with your 100% success rate.  I am looking forward being like you.  That is my goal.  I keep telling myself I will achieve it.

The good of affirmations is that once they start to work they will literally form a post-hypnotic order (it is like a "place and recall" for the unconscious). For this it is much better to use always the same sentence (and modus operandi to work the sentence out; think of it as sort of like a graphic password on the PC).

The only bad side of it is that affirmations take a while before they begin to fully work (and many people are simply too impatient to stick to them), but, as I said, when they start to do you are set and they have really a 100% success rate (so no, he is not boasting).

I agree, but this entire practice takes patience, practice and perseverance.

If people don't have the patience, then I would say they aren't ready to learn this yet.

I agree with Lionheart.  If you want something badly enough you make the effort.  I am doing fairly well but I have to make a big effort to be able to ap.   I can ap mostly in the morning if I make an effort.  It depends how much time you put into it on how successful you will be.
I think affirmations will work but it will take time.  I am prepared to wait however long it takes.  It can be a bit tiring saying over and over again with the affirmations.  I have a CD that says all that.  For now on every night I will listen to it.  Eventually it will work.  I know it will.  Thanks to the advice here I realise it will work.

I also have a CD on lucid dreaming.  I will listen to that as well.  Not on the same night.  I will alternate between the two.  The CDs I have are very good.

What do you do here do you say all that stuff BEFORE going to bed or? and I don't get that bit you say about how you see some of the words fading into the darkness. Please explain a little more.

I say this while laying in bed with my eyes shut as I am preparing to fall asleep.

I visualize the words just as they are spelled and written. Because my eyes are closed, I am seeing total black or darkness.

Now when I visualize the word I see it just like you do from the point of view as you would a advertising banner streaming from behind a airplane.

Example, close your eyes and visualize your name as a backdrop against the darkness you are seeing. Now, let that visualized name/word fade into the darkness.

To do this you have to realize you are already seeing from a 3d point of view. The word you are visualizing is kind of moving back into that darkness, hence the term "fading".

I just let the words fade into the darkness I am seeing.

This entire exercise promotes visualization together with powerful affirmations.

I did n0t realise it but I use affirmati0ns and it is very effective.  I have said t0 myself many times, I can easily ap which I can.  I als0 say t0 myself c0ncentrate and ap.  I stay aware with0ut falling asleep.   I keep saying it t0 myself and it w0rks.  I have started saying I can easily get deeply relaxed and I will slip 0ut 0f my b0dy.  My g0al is t0 be able t0 ap whenever I want t0 instead 0f early h0urs 0f the m0rning.   I read in a c0uple 0f hypn0sis b00ks that m0st pe0ple can be hypn0tised.  There is 0nly a few pe0ple that can get deeply relaxed.  Th0se pe0ple can g0 int0 their past lives.  M0st pe0ple cann0t get deeply relaxed s0 that explains why it can be hard t0 ap.
My keyb0ard letter 0 is n0t w0rking s0 I have t0 use the number 0.

I have recently had to alter my Nightly Affirmations from this:
"By my act of will, I RELEASE my focus over my physical body. PLEASE, TAKE ME to your desired destination. SHOW ME what I need TO SEE. TEACH ME what I need TO LEARN. I AWAKEN in my Dreams consciously aware, so I may LEARN FROM and ENJOY them. I become LUCID in them so I may INTERACT WITH THEM and REMEMBER THE!"
                                                             to this:
"By my act of will, I RELEASE my focus over my physical body. PLEASE, TAKE ME to your desired destination. SHOW ME what I need TO SEE. TEACH ME what I need TO LEARN. I AWAKEN in my Dreams, KNOWING I am Dreaming. Because of this KNOWING, I INTERACT with them and have complete memory RECALL of them.

I had to alter this because I found that just being Aware wasn't enough.

I started to experience what Xanth calls Lucid Awareness, instead of Astral Awareness. In that I could become Aware in my Drams, but I wasn't interacting with them like I knew I was Dreaming. It's more like I was watching them and had some small interactions, but was going with the exact "script" per say.

The only time I would be able to KNOW I was Dreaming was when I went back and RE-scripted the Dream I already had.

This has now led to me Knowing that I am in a Dream, as well as just being aware of it.

The subtleties.
If you ask precisely you will get exactly that. Ask generally and its a surprise for sure.
