Visualization - Always wondered...

Let me start off by mentioning a little thing that has happened to me before during the time when i'm not fully awake, still transitioning from sleep.

A few times, I have 'woken up' seeing behind my eyelids, and what I saw was a little mini-TV playing some video quite clearly. This lasts maybe 10 seconds until i'm fully awake and then its gone.

Now, I've always wondered, can most people actually see an image in a TV-like screen when they visualize? Am I just underdeveloped somehow?

Like, in some exercises where they ask "Where do you see the image in your mind?", I usually get frustrated because I can't see it anywhere, and can't continue. If I want to 'visualize' a green apple, I can get an idea of how it would look, but cannot SEE anything in my mind's eye. I just KNOW how it looks. The image is not actually there behind my closed eyes, or in my 3rd eye.

I've asked my dad if he can see things in his mind, like actually SEE and roate objects, and he said YES. I have always felt weird not being able to do this.

I _KNOW_ its possible, especially since one time I took Ecstacy, and it contained a chemical known as MDE which can produce hallucinations. Well, basically I was fully awake and watching a smudge of dirt on my wall turn into a video of a stick-figure indian lassoing a horse... now, man that brings weird feelings to me remenissing... but anyways, I was able to draw stick figures on the wall and ANIMATE them with my mind. This was _INCREDIBLE_ to me, as it was 100% clear, vivid hallucinations. If the mind can do this via a little chemical, i'm positive this can be achieved naturally and fully controlled.

Any comments? Can you SEE in your minds eye?

Thanks,
DiViNE

P.S. - Not sure where to post this, since Meditation and Visualization are part of developing AP, I posted here. Feel free to move it ;)

Yes you can actually see things in your third eye. I have had similar experiences where I'm close to sleep or have just gotten out of paralysis and then seen very detailed landscapes and images behind my eyelids. I have also seen images I wih to appear just by thinking of them while or after I do some Third Eye Chakra meditation.

The meditation I practice is where you lay down, get comfortable and make a TH sound while breathing out a deep breath. Try adjusting the frequecny of the sound until you fell it in your forehead and do it for about 4 deep breaths every day (I ususally do it for 8).

people are different! they are meant to be. it's not about beeing "underdeveloped" as a person, though it is true that this special ability is underdeveloped for lots of people. edit: NO, i dont even think so. just because a sense is hardly accessible, because it is connected differently in cognitive series does not mean that the sense is underdeveloped itself!

i dont know statistics but it is ovious that there is a corelation to MBTI personality types. (google on MBTI). for example ENTJ have extroverted intuition so they thend to get flashbacks and they have photographic memory. or INFP can visualize verry vell. this seems to depend on a fusion of introverterted feeling an sensing. as i said i dont know enough statistics so this is partially speculation. i am an INFJ and i can not visualise in a movie like way, just like you.
i can imagine anything just like you.

i know i have an inner eye that can get actually movielike too, it is perceived in my 'center' (dont ask where the center is! its abstract). its the introvertes intuitions eye (i guess). it gets fluid when i am in dynamic drance only. (verry different from dreaming or meditaion-visualisation). it is 3- dimensional as i do perceive it's 'content' as a whole whithout obvious perspective.
dynamic trance is hard to create.

of course i know the hypnagogic movie before my eyes as well.

teachers tend to say: you dont need to see it, just try to imagine it in your way. i allways wonder if they know what they are talking about as they never percerived MY imagination and dont seem to know that it is rater impossible to do alot of visualisation techniques with it.

howerver some are possible verry well.
for example i can imagine imagine kinesthesia verry well, which is just perfect for OBE.

NickJW: Thanks for sharing your experiences :) Only 8 breaths a day? I'd gladly do it more!

nanook: Thanks for the great reply! Perhaps I am not 'underdeveloped' like I said, but having the ability to SEE a concept or object visually in your mind, with clarity, would benefit sooooo many aspects of daily life. I'm not even talking photographic memory, just being able to see an apple for example and rotate it around. (Guess that would be photo memory tho right? :P Gotta have seen the apple)

----------------
Does anyone know of a site dedicated to developing this ability, or any good techniques? Notes taken of the Third Eye chakra medidtation from NickJW ;), though is there anything more elaborate, or quicker acting?

If its all about developing the third eye, i'll work on that, but are you sure it is? Maybe we simply need to map some neuropathways that will allow our imagination to send messages to our visual comprehension centre?

Thanks,

Underdeveloped? If anything i would consider it OVER-developed with all the beliefs and conditioning humans go through nowadays!

Its normal to not be able to see things crystal clear in your mind. Some people might have the "TV" ability but for the most part us humans are required to relax our awareness to achieve any non physical stimuli like that.

Heres a website your gonna love- http://www.winwenger.com/imstream.htm

Have fun developing your mind :)

Awesome link Ben K! Thank you very much :)

Site is quite simple and easy to follow, PLUS they have 24 'backup techniques' to get you thinking visually if you fail the first try\method. I like that!

I guess it'll all come down to practice and dedication, nothing comes easy... but hey, i'm sure it'll ALL be worth it in the long run :)

Peace,

Yeah i can tell you from experience you WILL notice a huge difference. Just gotta stick with it. Have fun!

will try that link, thanx!

Quotejust being able to see an apple for example and rotate it around. (Guess that would be photo memory tho right?

well i am a good designer, i can perfectly imagine a grid/skeleton of any object and put it in every position, but i can only have a quick impression of it. i can not stare at it for longer nor can i move it slowly around.

no i think photo memory is unrelated to that (playing with forms and dimensions). i dont know how good those people can imagine. but they are good shop detectives cause they discover instantly if a product is missing from a shelf ....

DiViNE

Well nanook, I too can get a 'quick impression' of objects or scenes in my mind, like yourself.

Hopefully with practicing Image-streaming for a while, i'll be able to hold an image in my mind longer than 1/10000th of a second :X

It says on the site, try for 10mins/day for 10 days, and if you see no progress, get outta here. I am confident this will worK!

Hello DiViNE,

It's so nice to hear that I'm not alone!  I was starting to believe that I was the only person who couldn't actually see an image in my head like an apple...

I made a post quite some time ago which you might be interested to look at. http://www.astralpulse.com/forums/viewtopic.php?t=14485&postdays=0&postorder=asc&&start=0
FRANK gave some really good techniques of how to develop this, unfortunately I haven't had the time or dedication.

But I so totaly understand what you're going through... I to can only perceive what an apple looks like, I'm not actually seeing it, it's more like a memory of how it looks.

However over the last 2 years I have had several experiences of what I'd call the third eye experience.   This experience has only ever happened to me once... I woke up and laid in bed feeling very relaxed I could see a little white dot which looked far away in the blackness behind my eyelids, I decided to move towards it making it get bigger and bigger, I got so close that I went though it and arrived in a caravan site with children playing all around me and birds flying in the sky. I could feel the wind and smell the freshly cut grass, it was soooo real infact even more real than what you see looking through your own eyes...  It was a fascinating experience and I really wish I could do it again but have tried and failed.  And now have given up ;(

But I hope you can do it, keep me updated of your progress.

Paul
I haven't lost my mind, I've backed it up somewhere...
