Thinking problems

Okay, I can't project yet, but I sometimes have a very similar problem while meditating or in a trance, in that I get very muddled thoughts and my brain seems to slow down.  What I do then is to conciously tell myself that I'm separating my mind from my body and that I'm going to stay awake while my body falls asleep.  Then I shake my brain around mentally and it seems to wake me up.[;)]

Do you have a procedure that you follow to get to this 'almost' out of body state.  If you don't then it may be worth building one that you follow so that you maintain a greater level of attention or focus as you move to OOB.

If you do have one then it may well be worth tinkering with it to achieve the same.

Examples of these procedures and techniques are available in the articles section of this site if you need more info.

I've read Astral Dynamics and I more or less follow the procedures there. I sit or lay in come sort of comfortable, relaxed position, go through some simple relaxation procedures, then go for a trance... I do breath awareness, full body scans, and counting/falling techniques. If I can maintain the focus and stay awake long enough, I'll be in a trance in half an hour and get the dear vibrations within one hour. Sometimes I'll just wake up and I'll be able to will the vibrations to come. From there, I can kind of control my feeling of whole-bodily self to bounce around within a foot of my body. Techniques like the rope trick, willing myself to move out, or trying to just kinda teleport out, will result in some movement and projection reflex symptoms; tightness in the solar plexus, etc. From there, I'll either fall straight asleep, or get a rather pathetic but successful projection where I float out and stop thinking like an intelligent, civilized human.

Last night I was fortunate enough to have my first successful, remembered projection where I kept my mind and senses. The story:
I was effectively stoned that night from thinking about the girl I love, and was also in a mood to go project already, dammit! When I first went to bed, I started out just doing a visualization of myself floating above myself, and went into some relaxation techniques from where I unfortunately just drifted off into sleep. About an hour later, I think I was kinda awake/hypnogogic, because I could feel myself in bed, but my thoughts were just the nonsense one's subconscious puts you to sleep with. One thought came across my mind, 'You're a genius. You can do anything. Project already.' and I immediately regained full consciousness. There were no vibrations, but I could feel myself drifting around within the limits of my body. I willed myself up, and rather easily I came out with a slight feeling of release in my chest, and I was free in my room. All my senses were there, but I couldn't see much; it was the middle of the night, indoors. I pushed myself upwards, and got myself through the roof and prehaps 50 feet above the ground without a problem. I could see the light from a streetlight kind of vaguely, but it was there. Not wanting to stay to long to lose the entire episode, I flew back down to my body (keeping my eyes open as I flew back through the roof, there was a funny thought about that.) and tried to reattatch myself, a process which felt rather natural, though it was kind of painful. I was in my body again, awake. I reviewed what I just did, got a drink, and went to sleep.

Something that doesn't cease to amaze me is that no matter how slight my projection, it just feels so real.

It's difficult for me to fully understand this state you describe Suigin.  As you're obviously following tecniques and seem to have a good grasp of what's going on around you, my first suggestion (similar to findtruth's) would be to stop what ever you're doing when you get like this.  Sort of a moment of stillness.  And use this to pull yourself together - maybe with some sort of self-command like you used when you said, 'You're a genius. You can do anything. Project already.'

Good Luck - if i think of anything else I'll post.

Post projection problems can arise sometimes when you fail to establish a plan for what you are going to do once you project. Most people put most of their thought and effort into practicing the exit techniques but not the follow-thru once they have achieved the exit. If you have firm goals to achieve and/or definite places to visit then this might help.  Sometimes muddled thinking can be avoided by forming good focusing habits during your waking hours since they have a way of bleeding into your night-time dreams and projections.  Congrats on your success in projecting.

Yes, excellent advice Centa Five

Having a pre-arranged purpose is a very positive thing and I think would help lots in this instance.

(First: Hi, everybody!)

I'm new to Astral Projection, having only has a couple of short, conscious exits (as far as I can remember...) and I've been encountering a problem that I'm not finding much help on in books.

My problem is that when I project, I have problems keeping my thoughts intelligent and thinking about what I'm doing. It's not exactly like I'm half asleep; my thoughts are perfectly coherent, but it's like my IQ went down to 50 and my animal instincts take over whatever my goals are. I have trouble remembering and making proper techniques to do anything or solve any of the other post-projection reflex problems I have, which I easily remember/think of how to solve as soon as I end up back in my body. This happens at any time of day or night, with any amount of rest or energy, and whether laying or sitting, but I think this is still probably connected simply with being partially asleep.

I need advise on what to do before the projection takes place. Thank you. *Bow*
