Title: Visualization and Astral Projection
Post by: musicalmachines on February 20, 2013, 21:17:26
So I've been spending an hour or so a day meditating and attempting to astral project. I've been using various guided meditations and for some reason I just can't visualize anything. When my eyes are closed and I'm not dreaming all I see is blackness and the occasional blurry splotch. Even when I'm in a deep meditative state and my mind is completely clear I can't really see anything with my mind's eye. I've read a bit on the subject and it sounds as though my third eye is closed, so I was wondering if this is an impediment to projecting? And regardless if it is or not what do I need to do to open my third eye? I've been noticing a pressure right above and between my eyes for around six months now which gets much more intense (but not painful) while meditating, before sleep, or when practicing visualization, and I've read that this means it's close to opening, but what do I need to do to cross that threshold?

In terms of astral projection I have felt a strange sensation as though I was moving independent of my body slightly, like my face wasn't quite aligned with where I knew my actual face was. Does this mean I'm on the right track?

The lack of visualisation is no big problem. It is more important to keep a stable concentration.

I would be careful with that. Mostly this is just an pre obe phenomenon, which occurs long before the actual exit phase begins. The signs of the exitz phase are especially the complete disappearing of all physical perceptions of the body! But dont check the body continously for it. This would disturb the concentration.

I suggest to focus on the main target of out of body experience methods. Falling asleep, while the mind is awake. Nothing more is as important as this. Then you can try again to visualize. You dont need to see. Its enough to imagine a movement of your body as detailled as possible. Do this imagination so, as if you woud have to plan an real movement of your body in every detail. But do this only after reaching the exit phase or, as long oyu cannot reach it, the deepest state of relaxation, which you can achieve.

I have only had a few projections now and i REALLY struggled with visualization but i found a scenario which is the only one for me which is:

At first a door opens in my mind and a beach ball rolls out past the peeking light from the other side of the door...i walk over to the beach ball pick it up and then i hear my friends call and i am emerged in a full volley ball game ...well with a beach ball and i get in to the game i imagine my friends responses to the beach ball when i take my serves and then eventually my mind plays the rest out and i am only thinking about my reactions, i worked a lot on it for example...
How the beach ball felt,
The heat of the sun,
The colours,
clothing...

But trust me i suck at visualizing but the right scenario helped me and its also one of the only ways i can project hope that helped :)

Try this. Go to your kitchen open your fridge and take something out of there, anything.

Now, go back to our computer, close your eyes and replay what you just did in your mind.

Try to feel the walking to the fridge, the opening of the fridge door, the picking up of the object and the closing the fridge door and walking back to your chair/couch, wherever your computer is.

At first you can only see the visuals. But the more you put into reliving this, the more you will start to feel the motions. You will also find that your physical focus has been completely put aside and now you accessing the non physical reality.

This is just a quick example, but practice it. Try maybe a hobby or a sport you like. The longer you can keep that image in your mind, the easier you will be able to shift to the NPR.

Good Luck and Safe Travels!  :-)

Its important not to analyse the process. Relax and allow it happen. It may occur, it may not.

If the imagination leads to immediate success or not, a good timed imagination causes at least a increased number of accidental out of body experiences, when the immediate success lacks.

That may be a problem. You're not letting go, the idea is to do nothing but keep yourself from falling asleep. Attention to details ect will hinder you like wearing concrete boots while trying to swim in the ocean. Daydream state engaged, looj at the blackness like you do wallpaper. Think of your destination, how it looks, feels and thats it. Eventually thats all on your mind and a visualisation of it may appear.
Relax and ignore the show.
See how you go with this.
