So this past week ive been having lots of sleep paralysis. Not like usually when i have sleep paralysis once or if im lucky twice a month.thi9s week ive had it 7 out of 7 days. My summer vacation has started and ive been going to sleep later than usual. The reason for the sleep paralysis is probably because ive been tired this whole week. Also ive noticed every time i fall asleep facing up i wake up in sleep paralysis. The problem is that i cant seem to focus or sometimes even notice that im in sleep paralysis.Every time in in SP I either start "suffocating" or i just fall asleep.

I have noticed that my state of mind affects my focus. If my mind is tired and exhausted cause of staying up late, then it is harder for me to focus my thoughts. That's part of why it's better to try to have an OBE when your not tired. With that said, I believe it's pretty normal to slip back into sleep when your mind is tired. I wouldn't stop trying though whenever the opportunity arises. I have had some pretty interesting OBE's while my mind is sluggish from being tired. But yeah, the more awake your mind is, the more focused your experience should be. This, of course, is just my personal experience.... Everyone is a little different. Good luck on your future attempts :)

I find that for myself, one of two things is true.  Either having a projection is my top priority...or sleep is.  Sometimes I can fool myself into thinking that projection is my top priority, but if I look a little deeper, I realize that sleep really was a higher priority -and in that case there will be no projection that night, no matter how how much I thought I had the intention to project.  Your subconscious knows what your true intention is!  If projection is a higher priority than sleep, I am able to cut right through the sleepiness, focus, and it WILL happen!  Having said that, if your're truly sleep deprived every night, you might want to rectify that before you make projection your top priority!

As for the suffocating feeling, check your thoughts.  Do you have negative feelings toward SP?  Is your mind fighting it in some way?  A little subconscious fear, maybe?  That's what creates the suffocating feeling. If you welcome it positively, you'll find you can breath just fine.  Just imagine that your stayed home from school sick, your lying in bed and your mom puts a nice, warm, heavy blanket on top of you.  You relax and feel comforted.  :)

The etheric and astral bodies do not breath, so it may be that you are in fact moving out/ separating into an etheric state and are still trying to breath from that body.  Perhaps not as it may in deed be related to your phenomena of SP, but I have read about and experienced this.  In one of my brief successes at consciously leaving my body (ie projecting out and not doing so say through a dream state) I found I was struggling to breath.  I immediately thought my real body was needing air so quickly return to bring it out of sleep.  What I needed to do was to relax into the astral body itself and not think of it as having physical needs.  The feeling of not being able to breath while out of body is apparently quite common.

Breathing, while out of body, never entered my mind in my experiences until I added a reality check in for dream consciousness. Then a short time later I did the reality check in my dreams, breathing through my pinched nose.
