Fear is a major stumblingblock that you must get over before you can truly be successful in astral projection.  This isn't to say that a person who is scared can't project.  However, a scared projector will usually have a negative experience, and it will set their spiritual progress back many steps.

If I may make a suggestion, just go out and buy Robert Monroe's first book, "Journey's Out Of The Body."  It's extremely beneficial, and one of the best ways to have an OBE is to read about them before laying down at night.

If you feel anything is a hinderance to your spiritual development, I would stop whatever it is you're doing.  I don't have any experience with a Ouiji board, but I have successfully projected enough without it, so I know that it doesn't make a difference as far as OBE's are concerned.

In my opinion, messing with a Ouiji board can (not always) lead to more harm than good.  But again, that is just my biased opinion.  I don't have any experience with them.

Here is another strange thing perhaps it's just me I have also used the ouija board with some success nothing bad or evil has happened as of yet. I as you have read have come close to projecting yet I still find it difficult to believe. What is stopping me from believing that I am communicating with spirits or that I am actually coming very close to gaining consious entry to the Astral? With the ouija board I feel that perhaps its my deeper feelings that I'm actually communicating with and with the Astral perhaps Im dreaming.
