Title: A Normal Part of Astral Projection?
Post by: artmud on September 16, 2013, 17:10:23
I was attempting to astral project for the very first time last night and noticed some odd happenings as I tried. My whole body felt heavy-that's normal but as it grew heavier my arms went numb and felt like they were on fire. Is this normal? Also, throughout the entire time I was trying to relax and exit my chest and head/neck would rise automatically and I would find that I had to keep forcing my upper body to stay on the bed. Not once did it feel heavy and relaxed like the rest of me. Is there something I can do to help this? (it's very distracting) :-P

You need to relax and slow down a little. Just take your time, don't worry about the strange or new sensations, they are normal.
The thing you are trying to achieve is to let the body fall asleep while keeping the mind just awake enough to feel your body going numb and dissapearing part by part.
You may not be successful if you try too hard.
You allow it to happen.

Thanks for the advice. I got a little freaked out as to why my arms felt like they were on fire. At first I thought it would phase out or something but it ended up staying with me for the entire time (40 min). I guess I'll have to get used to that!  :-P :-)

These symptoms are all known as "sign posts" and it's important to just passively observe them for now, with an air of curiosity.

Make sure you keep a Journal on all of your progress. There is something to learn from all of your hits and yes, your misses as well.

Check out all of the helpful Stickies to be found on this Forum. They are the threads in Large Bold Blue!

Good Luck and Safe Travels!  :-)

Exactly. Don't be pressured you MUST leave your body. If you are trying to hard you focus will stay on "trying". Just take it casually. Like an adventure, like something funny. Don't analise. Just swim with the flow.

Arms on fire doesn't sound like a sign post to me, it sounds like you were in an uncomfortable position physically even if it didn't register with you mentally, i.e, you  felt very relaxed but the position was restricting your blood flow or you may have laid on a nerve, in laymen terms (I know no other way to put it because I'm a laymen).

If it is a relaxing position and you like it, then try it out again and see if that was an anomaly.

And welcome. :-)
