From what I understand, no your astral body is really a projection of your conciousness.  Your Etheric body is your soul and after you die you do go to the astral, but you don't stay there.  All the astral is used for is so you realize that everything physical is trivial and you will then go onto higher planes until you lose all personallity is lost and you are just there.  Personally I would hate this and will make it my goal to just stay in the astral since there is so much to do anyway.  My personal hell is being bored and if I have no personallity then that would suck more then enternal damnation.
