Astral projection or sleep disorder?

I've been dealing with a very odd  situation that occurs when I sleep. I don't know if this is a sleeping disorder, or something else. It doesn't happen every night, but it happens a lot. I do have an anxiety disorder, which is why I am not sure if this is what's causing it. It's very hard to describe, but I'll try my best.

When I'm sleeping sometimes, I feel my entire body vibrating. I can even hear my jaw chattering. I hear weird noises such as a high pitched squeal, waves crashing, buzzing, whispering, wind etc. In my mind I am screaming to myself "Wake yourself up! Wake yourself up!" because I am awake in my mind, but I can't get up. I'm telling myself to move any body part so I can wake myself up, but I CAN'T move anything. My body is totally paralyzed. I'm telling myself to make a noise with my throat so I will hear it and wake up, but I can't even do that. The only thing I can move is my feet very slightly. What I have to do is rock my feet back and fourth until my body starts to rock with it, and then I wake up. When I do wake up, I immediately fall right back asleep. It is as if I am under anesthesia, and simply cannot stay awake. It is impossible.

It is almost like I am half asleep, half awake. Sometimes all I see is black and I am awake in my mind, then I'll see bits and pieces of things like a film strip. I'll see nothing but black with colors or shapes swirling around, sometimes I can hear music/people talking. A few times I felt the sensation of someone rubbing my face. One time I felt my entire body tingle..not to get graphic, but it was the feeling of an orgasm except all over my body (that was the only time I enjoyed this experience lol). My body twitches and jerks, and it scared me because I thought I was having seizures (are you aware of when you're having a seizure? :?).

To sum it all up, I feel like I am trapped in a trance for a long time. My eyes are closed, my body experiences weird sensations and won't stop twitching/vibrating/jerking. I hear things, and I'm awake in my mind- yet drifting in and out of dreams.  When this first started happening, I thought I was dying and it scared me. Then I thought it was a sleeping disorder......  but when I looked it up, someone said it sounded like astral projection. The thing is, I have never left my body before. So I don't see how it is astral projection.

This happened to me again tonight, and for the hell of it I said "Ok, let me see if this IS astral projection...I will try and float out of my body when this happens." I tried, I was willing, and I couldn't. My body stayed in this paralyzed state. I still felt the weird sensations, saw bits and pieces of scrambled up "dreams", heard noises, and couldn't wake myself up. But I didn't float out of my body.

I would like to know if this sounds like a sleeping disorder to you, or something else. I really don't like this. It used to scare me, but now it just annoys me.  Sleep is supposed to be peaceful, and this is anything but. I am used to it now because it's been happening for a few years. I'd just like to know WHAT is occurring. Any help?

What you're experiencing is sleep paralysis. It's pretty harmless though it can be frightening, and it's quite simple to astral project from.  If you do a search for it on this site you'll  find quite a lot of information. "Sleep disorder" is (usually) a term coined by doctors and scientists for a phenomenon that lies outside their narrowminded dogma.

I was under the impression that sleep paralysis is when you can't move when you wake up, and your eyes are open.....and you see/hear things that can be frightening. My eyes are closed the entire time this happens to me. I don't see things in my room, because I can't wake up. lol. It also lasts for hours at a time, where as sleep paralysis apparently only lasts for a few minutes.

Yup, definitely Sleep Paralysis.
Basically, it's exactly how you described it... mind awake, body asleep.
It can be quite terrifying if you don't have any idea what is happening... some people describe it as being trapped in your own body.

Your mind can really come up with an infinite number of sights, sounds and feelings to tantalize your senses with.
Just realize that when it happens that you're perfectly safe and what you're experiencing (ie. sounds and sights) are just being created by you.

To answer Iceyhot...
Your eyelids will be closed, as your body is still fast asleep.
However, sometimes you'll be able to see THROUGH your eyelids.

Yep sleep paralysis and vibrations. I'm surprised you were that far into sleep paralysis yet didn't mention seeing through your eyelids. At first most people find this uncomfortable (sleep paralysis). Those noises (usually for me buzzing or high pitched squealing) happens just as Im about to exit the body. Sometimes the buzzing with accompany the vibrations, then upon exit I'll hear the high pitched squealing. If you get too scared and want to stop the paralysis, focus intently on moving one part of your body, a small part like your thumb or index finger, and usually that is enough to break sleep paralysis.

Really? Hours at a time?  I've had sleep paralysis bouts all night long before, but never truly continuously.  I think you are probably drifting in and out of sleep and keep waking into the vibrational state without realizing it.  Once in a trance it is difficult to account for time accurately.

Anyway, lucky you!  I'd go for separation the next time round and enjoy the ride...

The Present Moment

It can be both. Sleep apnea and narcolepsy can cause sleep paralysis, and there could be other disorders I'm unaware of. Are you on any medications that could be doing it? If you are in good shape medically then I would recommend learning to use this state to your advantage.

My perspective is a bit different.  Separation vibrations are quite unique to kundalini vibrations (energies), quite unique -I experience them both, and like icyhot says, the latter are not used to astral project.  Kundalini vibrations involve the physicality, they raise the vibration of the PHYSICAL body to match that of the consciousness, which can result in actual physical dematerialization and teleportation -(as opposed to an OBE or astral projection..  I am not saying any of this is so for the questioner, only that it is a possibility.  The twitches and jerks could be kundalini kriyas.  Some of these videos may be helpful---
