Title: Astral projecting..unconsciously?
Post by: Goober on October 22, 2006, 23:15:37
Something very wierd happened last night. I was extremely tired. So tired, that even if I could Astral Project easily, I would rather go to sleep.  So I decided I would try to OBE out of a lucid dream instead. I do that on the days when I'm too tired to do any meditative stuff.

As I was trying to go to sleep, I had the feeling of sinking into my bed. The exact feeling I would get if I OBEd, but without the vibrations. This happened many times, then I would jerk back and see a green dot between my eyes.

After I finally got to sleep, I remember, in my dream thinking.. "I'm bored, I guess I'll go try to Astral Project.." ( It wasn't a Lucid Dream, just a normal one. ) I layed down in my dream, did the meditative things, and started to get vibrations. The vibrations were real and woke up me up.

So did I almost unconsciously Astral Project? Maybe it was a spontaneous one that I noticed BEFORE-hand that made me not have it.

You can definitely do it unconsciously.  The only way I can describe it is that is engrained as a habit and with that you know exactly what you need to do when you become aware of certain feelings that correspond to leaving your body.  I can't say which brings about the awareness first, unconsiously trying to OBE or maybe it is a heightened awareness that allows you to see that you are leaving your body in sleep, and you just grasp onto that.

I believe I unconsciously project more often than consciously.
Though I can only remember in great detail with my conscious attemps.

According to some others, you unconcsciously project a great deal, but do not remember it.  I myself have done it once or twice when I was not extremely tired, but had been woken up from a long sleep only to go asleep again (whether it be a few seconds later or a few hours).

Thanks for the replys.

Last night, something similar happened. I didn't almost AP though.

Everytime I would go into a "half" conscious state ( the 5 minute so or so when you are barely conscious, but aren't asleep. Probably not remembering what happened during that time in the morning ), I would feel my body slip away from me, for very short amounts of time. My vision would go from black, to VERY black, and my arms would no longer have any feeling in them. I had the feeling of leaving my body, but not moving anywhere.

What's going on? I don't want it to happen again tonight. It's very, very annoying.

Well, if someone's being aware through the senses while the astral projecting it means they are projecting consciously. The concept of 'lucidity' is kind of ridiculuous for a couple of reasons.

First, lucid means clearity. Lucidness is just consciousness (awareness through the senses). It's possible to be in the astral with a pretty good amount of awareness without understanding that one is in the astral.

Second, there are some people that even though they are in the astral and know they are (most dreams take place in the astral) they still do ridiculous things to try to prove where they are (though they know they are flying, passing through walls, etc.).

The concept of lucidity is flawed. Lucidity is just being aware through the five senses (awareness can occur to a lesser or greater degree).

I know of people who have to go through certain ordeals in the astral with about as much lucidity (sense awareness) as they have in the physical world. Yet, they still don't know that they're in the astral.

Also, there is another factor. That's forgetfullness (but that also seems to tie in to lucidity--consciousness)
