Title: Bed or office chair better for AP?
Post by: rangestormer on November 30, 2010, 07:15:57
Like many fellow members of Astral Pulse, I do not live alone, so finding a designated spot to practice is not easy. For me, the best choice is my own bedroom, where I am alone. I can't relax in the living room where someone migth interupt me and be very interested in what I am doing (I don't like explaining my practices, at least until I have sufficient experience). So, my choice comes down to either the bed or a reclining office chair. Is the bed really the worst place to practice AP and will it be in any way easier for me to "leave" from a chair?

I don't think it matters.  Just as long as you feel comfortable.  I've AP'd from bed, which I was on my side several times and worked just fine and the couch. lol  My hubby snores likes crazy so the days or nights that he snored, I went to the couch.  I'd love to get one of those Lazy Boy chairs!  That seems like the perfect place.   :-)

I've been seeing the best success on my recliner couch in our living room.
Actually, just last night, an hour before I went to my Aikido class... I was practicing, and nailed Focus 12 within minutes.
It's been good to me, so I'm gonna keep trying there.

Although I do practice in the mornings when I remember... that would be in bed.  :)

The body is most used to falling asleep in a bed, so the bed is the best place to relax. However the mind is also used to falling asleep in a bed, so it's a bad place for concentration. The office chair is the opposite.

It's down to personal preference, but in general people are going to opt for a bed rather than a chair. Projecting while laying down is much more likely than projecting whilst sitting. However by all means practise in a chair if you want to. The chance for a projection is smaller, but each practise brings with it benefits regardless of whether you project in that particular instance or not. Doing a short meditation sitting and then proceeding to laying down can get you in the right state of mind to concentrate, thus giving you an overall better result.

That's why I love my recliner couch (we have a big ol recliner chair too) for practicing... I'm not quite "sitting" and I'm not quite "lying down".  hehe

sitting up in an office chair takes practice.  but if you can fall asleep sitting up in a chair then you can AP from it also.

bed is fine too.  whatever works for you.

it would be nice if you could specify a place separate from the rest of your "life".  like a long closet you can lay in or something.  some kind of space that you can turn into a type of "altar room" for the sake of creating a space removed from the mundane world.  it just helps you get into the right mind state and it becomes a habit to shift your consciousness when you enter that space.

but it's not always practical.  so use whatever you can and try to bring in common elements every time.  like a fragrance or sound or something like that.
