Title: Breathing underwater
Post by: oloxio on June 22, 2005, 10:42:12
Hello Everyone,

I have a reoccurring experience (dream?) where I'm underwater and holding my breath. After a while, I cautiously take in a lung-full of water, then I suddenly remember that yes, I am able to breath while underwater.  It's a very freeing and exciting sensation.

Afterwards, my mind attempts to rationalize the experience. Some of the explanations thought of are:

1. An occurrence of sleep apnea.
2. Some remembrance of being in the womb.
3. A recall of a death by drowning.

I was wondering if anyone has had, or has heard of similar experiences?

Thanks,

oloxio

I would make this a trigger to alert me that I am dreaming.  When this happens next time say "I am dreaming" and then your dreamy state will fall away and you will become lucid.

Lucid dreams are contained in Focus 2 of Franks model of consciousness.  I would also read about exiting lucid dreams and trying to enter focus 3.

Han

PS.  Sorry, I am not a dream interpreter.

Swimming is one of my regular dreams, too, including swimming underwater. Being able to breathe there was not easy because of the habit of being unable to do so from physical life. If you hold your breath in your dream, you will also tend to do so physically at the same time. It is like the research that Stephen LaBerge did to signal from a lucid dream by intentionally moving his eyes in a pattern. I can wake myself up from a dream by holding my breath or by closing my eyes for too long. Swimming dreams are a lot like flying dreams, or at least that is how they feel to me.

What is there to rationalize, anyway?

Thanks Hans and Tom. I hadn't thought of using it as a trigger.

You're right. Sometimes I "forget" and think that there is something to rationalize, and that there is someone there to do the rationalization. :-)

During one of my first  OBE's I was pulled to a higher plane where the air there was breatable water, it was like swimming in air.  The energy of the place was so pure.

I met my guides there, it was their plane and they had brought me to it.

Not only that, I met another astral traveler in a bar. At first we looked silently at one another just "knowing" what we both were.

Finally, he waited until no one was around and asked "Does your soul sometimes leave your body?"

I answered yes of course, and as it turns out, we had BOTH been to the SAME place where you could breath the water.

Only he hadn't met his guides or anyone yet.

I'm not saying you were there, But this place does exist.

Swimming dreams are the wildest ones I have but they are all semi lucid.  I had decided to use these dreams as a trigger to alert me to become lucid but for some reason it never occurs.  The colors are absolutely fantastic and practically indescribable.  The members here will know what I mean though.  It is as if the colors radiate out of the creatures and scenery like Christmas lights.  Also I do not have to always be in the water for this incredable light effect, sometimes on the water on a ship will cause this too.

That sounds like a place I'd like to visit, Leyla!

It reminds me of the time I was flying through space, and arrived at some planet. I dove into the layers of its atmosphere, one of which was made up entirely of water. It was refreshingly cool and recharging. As I burst out of the other side of it, I was transfixed by the patterns of refracted light that covered the land below, resulting from the planet's sunlight passing through the liquid atmospheric layer.

Breathing is a human physiological need. Like other basic human functions we take them into the astral plane with us all the time. I can definitely see that after my physical life has completely ended and I begin my new spiritual one breathing will be a sort of tick that will have to be shed. Until that time comes I will enjoy the breathable astral waters.

Oh my Gods, that sounds so beautiful.  Sparkely rainbow- jewel like.
