Brief Tunnel Experience

Hello All

Thought I'd share my latest foray into the world of weirdness.  Here is last night's escapade.  :-P

I awoke in the night, lay on my back and relaxed using the Monroe technique.

I'm not sure whether I actually fell asleep first, but I know that I had my physical arms above my head and became aware that my second arms were lifting out and floating around on their own – as if they were in space and not bound by gravity.  I let them do this and didn't control them.  I found it really strange because where they "touched" the walls (they didn't), I could literally hear what it should have sounded like if my physical arms touched the walls.  I even thought to myself how bizarre it was that my brain is making up these sounds because it thinks my physical arms are making contact.  I was quite fascinated by this.

Then all of a sudden I am moving head first backwards horizontally.  I want to stay with this and keep calm.  I manage to do so for a good few seconds and realise that I am moving through a tunnel – the tunnel is square in shape, like an elongated cube.  As I realise this, I see turns and twists in the tunnel but lose the momentum and momentarily come round.  I half expect this to happen as I'm still struggling with speed and I was travelling relatively fast (and couldn't see where I was going).

I lowered again and felt my arms floating around above me.  I thought about getting out, but didn't fancy it (how times change!).  I then automatically started moving again, the same way as before.  Again, I managed to keep with it for a few seconds before coming round.

Then I must have fallen asleep properly and ended up having a low level lucid dream.

I enjoyed travelling down the tunnel and hope that eventually I'll be able to stay with the sensation and see what happens next...

Hi Sarah,

I find your tunnel experience interesting as I had a tunnel experience where I also went incredibly fast.
Thinking in hind sight, it's hard to tell if I was moving or if the tunnel (like some sort of vessel) was moving.
It was all part of an experiment where I wanted to catch a transit moment in between dreams, and keep awareness.
I was already lucid and speaking to a woman in the dream. I was focusing hard on not loosing awareness, when suddenly everything seemed to go dark and then I was in a tunnel whose walls seemed to have a membrane appearance.
What is strange is the walls seemed to have a floral design on them that had been white washed over LOL
Anyway, there were others in this tunnel with me, but they were not "there" properly with their awareness.
I actually thought at the time that it's probably better to stay unconscious during this experience, because the speed
and changing directions quite frequently was quite dizzying. After what seemed like a couple of minutes, we were "popped" out into a new dream scene. As if coming from slightly above, into a bedroom. I then went outside, and tried to do the same again, into another dream scene. But the dream lasted too long and I lost awareness.

Can you remember exactly what the tunnel was like? The nearest I can think of to describe the way I travelled, was how
it is when Jodi Foster is in that time/space travel device in the film Contact.

Hello Aelfrede

Firstly, welcome to the Forums!  :-)

I think tunnels are fairly common.  Whether we are actually travelling in tunnels, or whether our brain interprets what is happening through the imagery of a tunnel is up for question - and even whether it is us or the tunnel that is moving!  :-P

From my experience, it certainly felt like I was doing the moving because I distinctly felt that I was moving away from my physical body and I even felt myself go through the bedroom wall.

I wasn't particularly going very fast - when I said I have trouble with speed, I mean I have trouble with anything more than a reasonable walking pace!!   It was the build up of speed that knocked me back.  I've experience this speed before and I'm slowly getting used to it, but I can only stand it for a few seconds before I've lost it.

The tunnel I caught a glimpse of was quite unusual.  As I said, it was square in shape, slim (in that it would only seem to fit one person) and was grey in colour.  This lack of colour is the most telling, as I normally dream in full colour.  It also had a pattern on the inside walls, more geometric and mathematical than creative and abstract.  It looked logical and rational, and not in the least bit whimsical, if that makes sense.  It looked a little like a pencil drawing.  My glimpse was brief and the image was slightly blurry (due to me moving along), but that's what I remember about what I saw.  It's amazing how much I actually can remember, to be honest!

I wondered whether these tube structures are passages between dreams that link one to the next.  I wanted to stay with the movement because I sensed that I would "plop" out somewhere and have an adventure.

I normally exit my physical body straight away, or more lately phase straight into a scenery and don't often experience the 3D void or tunnels, so this is quite new to me.  I like it though and want more!  :-D

Oh, I've never seen Contact so can't comment... sorry.
