Title: Can you tell me what's happening here?
Post by: katmd on May 01, 2011, 08:28:00
Hello, everyone.  For the past several months I *think* I've been experiencing astral projection, but I'm hoping to get your opinions.  It has happened about five times,  just as I'm falling asleep.  I feel as though I'm being sucked out of my body, in the same position in which I'm lying.  On two occasions I've moved very quickly through a tunnel similar to an elevator shaft, in which I can feel and hear rushing wind.  Other times, I sort of float out of my body.  Once I just levitated above my bed.  A couple of times I've ended up seated in a room, where a woman was speaking to me but I could not hear her words.  Other times, I've floated through space, or on the ocean.  In all cases, I'm gently deposited back into my bed when all is done.  In all cases, I am lucid throughout.  Also, I frequently hear beautiful music as the "trip" begins, or as it ends.   So is this astral projection?  Lucid dreaming?  OBE?  It all happens quite unexpectedly.

Vibrational sleep paralysis, lucidity, and full awareness are all indicators of an OBE/AP. You're 3 for 3, congrats.

I've said it before, I'll say it again.  Don't worry about labelling the experience.  You have been to the otherworld, enjoy it and keep going.  Definition will come to you in time.

Thanks for both of your posts!  Yup, I do tend to label new things, then research the bejesus out of them.  I've decided lately to try instead to sit back, remain positive and open, and enjoy this new experience.  (That is, as soon as I figure out how to use AP to visit one of my past lives ....)

i didn't mean to sound short.

when you put definition to a new experience it shapes your expectations.  that can have a negative impact on your practice.  you may accidentally train yourself to not project or LD.  i know it's hard not to, i'm the same way.  but i've found more recently that when i let go of my preconceived ideas about what projection is or what a dream or LD is, I find my experiences to be much more satisfying and fulfilling.
