How long do those star like comets last in the sky

did it have a tail? if it didn't have a tail it definitely wasn't a comet, because all comets have tails created from frozen materials being blown off away from the sun due to the sun's radiation.

if it wasn't a plane, then..

tail: it was a comet

no tail day: satellite, asteroid (unlikely due to gravity), ufo (very unlikely)
no tail night: satellite, ufo (again, unlikely)

my guess is that if it didn't have a tail, it was a satellite.
What is the sound of no leaves cloving?

I would agree that it was satellite.

Commets usually take a few days to pass from view, provided it is visible to begin with.  They do not normally pass close enough to the Earth for it to only take a few minutes.  If one were to pass that close every one would hear about it because it would be big news and they would know at least a few days prior.

Falling or Shooting Stars as they are known are only space "junk" and last a max of 5-10 secs.  The longer ones usually get extreamly bright as they fall because there is more to burn off.

UFO's well they do what ever they want, stay as long as they want, ect.  Not likely but still possible.  But since I haven't been out for a drive yet tonight because I am still at work, it wasn't a "UFO".

Satellites however travel in a straight line across the sky, from horizon to horizon.  The average time a satellite take to cross the sky is about 1 to 1 and a half mintues.  They are usually a solid color also, usually white or a shade there of.

So what do you think it was now?

It had no tail, but it was going horizon to horizon it looked, but it wasnt white, it was going from blue to red and going to each color as if a star would, i noticed it almost faded away at one point but the color came back. It wasnt a white or a solid color, does a meteor look similar to a comet in the sky? It also wasnt getting brighter, it looked almost exactly like a star that was going from the blue to red star color like some of the stars do in the sky at night, but it was moving and at like a set pace.

Me personally, I have not seen a satellite change colors, but I will not say it isn't possible.  The striaght line suggests a satellite though, and also beause there was no tail.  The constant speed is another satellite indicator also.

Meteors or Shooting Stars have tails, long or short, depending on how big it is.  Kinda like a comet but they usually burn out fast, and never make a full arc across the sky.

Hi everyone,and General-Army.

Give the date, time and location of your sighting.  Then have someone from this group AP back in time to the period. That person will see what you saw and he or she can AP closer to it and travel with it and see what it really is close up.

Then report back hear and report what he or she saw.

Im not sure if i saw a comet, ufo, or a satelite. I saw this moving star in the sky just now, it was going slower then what i normaly see those small comet things as but it was also a bit bigger. It stayed in the sky  for a while to. And it never swirved at all either just one straight direction. I was able to put my bike in the shed and lock it up and i still saw the comet move across the sky. Im sure it wasnt a plane because i heard nothing and there was only one light. i was also able to see alittle bit around it and there was nothing. Was this a regular comet which is what i think it could have been but it might have been something else because it lasted so long, it even went behind a cloud for like 5-10 seconds and i saw it come out the other side.
