Hi Major tom,
I have the same thing happen to me and the only thing that seems to produce this for me is when i obe in the early hours of the morning because like you said it happens like a snap and at that time of the day(early morning) i wake up and and i am able to exit in a very fast amount of time(like a snap) . I actually prefer this type of obe because when i have a body in an obe it seems to make me think of my physical body and i find myself back in it. I dont seem to have any trouble turning but i have figured out that i travel by pure will if that helps you in any way but  you probably already knew that
    I am interested to know if you can remember having much emotion while doing this because as opposed to a normal obe i seem  dull because i feel lifeless without a body but never the less i still enjoy it.
   Sorry i couldnt help you much but all i can say is the less time it takes to get out more chance i have of bieng pure concioussness.

hmmmm, It sorta sounds like a buffer zone between F3 and F4oC, like a true mental projection, no body just the mind.
