I think real death is obvious. It is when the physical body can no longer go on living. OBE and NDE are when you move your consciousness out of the physical body. If these experiences are what is after this life, well I tend to think so, but you really must decide this for yourself.

Alice had got so much into the way of expecting nothing but out-of-the-way things to happen, that it seemed quite dull and stupid for life to go on in the common way.

I've been reading "The Astral Plane" by C.W. Leadbeater and he discusses the details of what transpires when a person dies.  Charles (C.W.) was a Theosophical author back at the turn of the 20th century ... this book was published in 1895.  He was a bishop who underwent extensive training to LEARN clairvoyancy ... also known as Second Sight ... and to some of us, Astral Vision.  With this skill, he could see the Astral during waking hours, as well as the human aura, thoughtforms, entities, etc ... a really USEFUL SKILL to have if you're a physical human!

So, Charles book is somewhat technical, yet has much good information in it ... like what happens to a person following death.  If a person's death flows smoothly, without any mental and emotional bagage, the physical body "dies" which we all know about.  After that, the deceased separates from their Etheric Body, followed shortly there after by the Astral Body.  You're probably wondering "How many bodies do I have?!?!?"  I think the answer is Seven, and of the Four remaining now, I can only remember two ... the emotional body and the mental body.  When I can remember the other two, I'll post them up.

For anyone interested in reading this book, or any of the other Theosophy books, you can usually get them fairly cheap on Ebay ... I only paid a couple of US Dollars for "The Astral Plane".

P.S.  If you'd like to learn about Thoughtforms, I highly recommend "Thoughtforms" by Bessant and Leadbeater ... it adds much light to how our thoughts REALLY work ... and how to see them (if you develop your Second Sight ability).

Cheers!

I have  a question.  What is the difference between real death or a NDE and OBE?  Im a bit confused.  When you talk about the non physical realm is this realm the afterlife?   Are we messing with or glimpseing into what is next after this physical life is over and if so why are we able to?  It sounds as if many of the experiences I have read on this site are mainly just vivid dreams.
Why do so many NDE say they see a bright light.  I didnt see any bright light but my experience didnt last but a couple seconds, enough to scare me  and intrigue me all at the same time.  I cant say that I liked it but I cant say that I hated it either.
