Fear always gets the better of me

I think I've learned something new, quite by accident. The past several days I've only had a few hours of sleep. I first noticed it on Saturday that the spirit world was starting to open up to me. I'll spare the details as they aren't that interesting. But last night was, I was lying in bed about to fall asleep when I started thinking about my ex-fiance. It seems like I've been thinking about her all week for some reason. Anyway, I guess this kept me relaxed and awake enough that I started to Out-of-Body.

First the ringing/buzzing noise in my head starts, getting louder and louder, I follow the ringing, focusing in on it. The ringing is my only thought, I become one with the ringing as it gets louder and louder it is the only thing I hear.

I no longer realize I have a body, I cannot feel my body. It is similar to the feeling just before falling asleep. The ringing continues and and I feel the familiar waves of energy start running all the way through my body. I am passive and allow them to grow and grow. They start to speed up, going faster, and faster. The ringing turns into a high pitched whine (that starts to fade). At this point I start to get frightened and imagine WHITE light, I think "I am the light, the light is all around me radiating from me."

I feel my body start to rise, I am partially free I turn my non-physical head and open my non-physical eyes. I see around me, very dark, a shadowy figure is my room. Now I am scared and panicking. I want to go back, I concentrate hard on finding my body, connecting to it, it takes all my strength to move my finger (which is in sleep paralyze). Back and forth I move it slowly, there I feel it now.

I am back and turn on the light still shook up. I'm mad at myself for not going all the way. It always seems fear gets the better of me. I try to go back to sleep but keep starting to project, eventually I'm able to sleep.

And what I've learned is that lack of sleep somehow makes it easier for me to do these things. I think it has to do with the connection to this reality in some way.

Personally I believe there are two main emotions or states of being in my life. A sought of Yin Yang relationship.

The first is fear. Fear is a state of being that we generally direct at external things. "This can harm me, this has the potential to harm me etc". At times like these, you are in fear. There is doubt and it manifests itself in such ways as anger, frustration... any emotion you would consider hindering to your general well-being.

The second is love. True love, IMO, is first directed in wards and then projected out onto the world. Sometimes loving the world is loving yourself also. Love does not focus on certainty in the world, simply because reality can never be shaped into a choice mold. It focuses on certainty in self. Eradicating doubt in the world by being certain that it is unpredictable. By understanding this unpredictability from another angle. Instead of "Oh gosh anything bad could happen, don't go there", love's attitude is "Oh gosh anything good can happen here, don't stand around waiting for the opportunity to pass you." This conquers fear all together. There are many different ways to explain this, but it is a truth I personally seem to just understand. As my signature says "Truth exists beyond the dimension of thought." Perhaps try to find a truth in fear yourself and use it to understand your personal situation.

No idea if this helps, but I thought I'd mention it.

Hello Steel Hawk,

Congratulations on projecting!

Don't worry about being afraid. That is the most natural thing in the world when facing the unknown. The important thing is that you don't let it scare you from trying to project again (if you want to continue exploring the astral). The fear will gradually go away as the astral become more known to you.

Having the lights on when trying to project can make an astral practice seem less scary. When I first started having OBEs I also liked to have the TV on, to make the house appear less empty and silent. Anything you can do to feel safe is good.

Good luck!

There are a lot of people who feel afraid, Steel Hawk.  :-)

Anyway, you could just try telling yourself that there is nothing in the astral that can harm you, and that you're going to have fun and going to have an adventure. Hopefully, that will replace fear with excitement. (Although too much excitement can hinder you.)

Fear is normal at first. You will eventually work through it.

Thank you all for your words of encouragement :)

I think I just need an Astral flashlight

You'd be able to create a flashlight for yourself in the astral world, wouldn't you, Steel Hawk? People say whatever you want to have, you create it, and it should apear instantaneously.

Yes, but the flashlight is just a medium for your subconscious and conscious to 'agree'. There is not actually a flashlight presentm your mind just wills "if a flashlight is on then it MUST be more visible" and so it is.

Once I turned the light off, turned around and took a few steps towards my bed. Then I decided to jumo into the bed. My room was pitch black by the way. I ended up in the corner of my room squashed against my frog tank and my desk. Hurt like crazy.

Isn't it nice to hear that fear is normal?  I like the responses of those who say to just give it time, that's the best advice.  I would only add one thing: visualize this happening again (leaving your body) and how you want to feel, and then how you WILL feel.  This will help prepare you consciously and sub-consciously to dispell the fear when you go through this experience again.

Jumping in on this thread too.

I've never had an obe - I'm not really sure I want one, maybe I do ??  who knows lol - but what I DO know is that I am scared of the 'trip' for one main reason, how do I know I would get back okay, how do I get back okay, how do I chose when to get back okay and what would prevent me or anyone from getting 'stuck' ?

In this state is there no risk of the body becoming so relaxed that it drifts off to death ?

What I would dearly love to do though is communicate with Angels, to be able to help those trapped here following a traumatic and sudden death to find their way out of here, and to be able to heal.

I don't know if I have any of the energies that I see being discussed here, I certainly have an interest.  I have had the sharp snapping sounds within the head which I have read about - very loud, very worrying at the time as I wondered if a blood vessel had just popped or something ~ it was not a pleasant experience.

I've drifted off into a relaxed state prior to sleep, have had that falling sensation, the jerking & twitching of the muscles, various light shows in pitch black - but I am not convinced that they are not standard normal body functions that 99.9% of the human race have.

I don't know what most of the terms and words used in this forum mean, but I do understand the feeling of fear as mentioned in this thread.

I'd be more than grateful if anyone can point me in 'the right direction' with regards to investigating the ability to communicate with friendly spirits here on earth.  Or show me where I can learn more about helping those who are stuck on this plain.  I am not interested in exorcism, I wish to help by showing these people where the doorway is, or helping to open up an avenue for them to follow, so that they may move on.

LOL!  I'm ready to trash the damn thing!  There are too many spiteful people on here for it to work in the way it was intended.

It's the same as the fear a child has of the dark.

See if this helps:

Find a room that you can black out and that has a mirror , like the bathroom after nightfall.

Stand in the dark and look into the mirror, take note of your feelings, and if you have unjustifiable fear, then practice dispelling it.

When I was a kid, I didn't have a bedside lamp, so I'd flip the light switch on the wall and do a running leap into the bed and under the covers.

Now I enjoy walking throught the forest at night in the dark.

This is a great idea iNNERvOYAGER. I have been considering doing this lately. I have gone from 3 or more RTZ/Astral experiences a week to maybe once a month due to avoiding the potential terror, even though some experiences have been absolutely incredible.

So Steel Hawk best I can say is take iNNERvOYAGER's advice, because some very beautiful, exciting experiences await just beyond the threshold.
