It was the late 1980-s, I was involved as a 'seeker' with a group of Wiccans in Reno calling themselves the College of One. According to their rules, one could only be a 'seeker' for six months, but what kept happening was that we'd reach the end of the six months, they'd tell me that if I wanted to continue I'd have to choose a teacher, I'd thank them, and wish them well, and just before the next Moon Meeting they'd call to see if I was coming. I never chose a teacher. I consistently felt something weird and creepy. One of the many frustrations of being a seeker with that group, was that they would welcome everyone to the Moon Meeting, we'd all start having a little fun together, then they'd decide that it was ritual time, and all the non-initiates would have to leave the ritual area (usually going down into the basement for the period of the ritual). I noticed after a few months that I could 'feel' something going on above that changed things in the basement (I later discovered that what they were doing that was noticeable was 'cutting a circle'). Doing some library research, I figured that they were somehow 'making sacred space', and that I could use that for my own purposes. So, the next time it happened, I mentally shouted, asking for someone to show up who could teach me about all of this stuff. And an entity 'arrived' who called Himself Ullr, the Norse god of the hunt. I don't know, I haven't been trained in how to validate the existence of gods. In any case, His main way of training me was to pull me up onto the Astral, a few layers above the physical reflection. The place abounded with all kinds of spirits, deities (male and female), and beings in between. There was no conflict between them, even though they were connected to different human cultures, and there were a bunch that weren't connected to any human culture. Ullr made me aware that spiritual conflict is a product of limited mortal perspective. Then He took me back to my body.

I had several other similar travels with Him, and learned quite a few things.
Later, when I became more interested in finding out how to Astral Project on my own, the Fountain out of the Llewellyn Guide to Astral Projection worked easily for me, even though I've had to tweak it over the years to teach it to others in a way that they could do the same.
