The key is to shift your awareness from the physical to the astral (or wherever you want to go). I am not sure how to explain this well. Try not to think about your body, try not to feel for it. Many times when I first started I would get out, feel overwhelmed and instinctly "feel" for my body. I am not sure if that makes sense but I do not know how else to describe it. You have to learn to remain calm and passive. When out, especially at first you can feel overwhelmed and vulnerable, though really you are not. If you cannot remain calm I think you instinctly "feel" for you body. You must learn not to do that and remain calm.

It sounds like you were close to OBE or AP. That is a technique I have used with some success. I would lay down and let my mind drift a little and as soon as I felt it drifting off to sleep I would snap it back awake. If you can do this and not fall asleep it seems to work pretty well. After a few times of jerking myself awake, my mind only, I seem to be able to jerk myself out of my body so to speak.
Alice had got so much into the way of expecting nothing but out-of-the-way things to happen, that it seemed quite dull and stupid for life to go on in the common way.

Oops I forgot to add:

AP/OBE can be like riding a bicycle. You have to find a balance to be able to do it, only this is a mental and emotional balance.

thanx fallnangel "not to feel for your body" I'll keep that in mind...
Does that mean I should not listen to what happens in my body, and just let myself go? But where can I hang my conciousness to if I can not listen to my body? images maybe... I'll see anyway.. first of all I need to quiet some remaining fear of facing some neg right away when I enter astral (or RTZ?)..

WalkerInTheWoods

If you are using the drifting off to sleep/jerk your mind awake method the only thing you need to do is relax, try to let your body go to sleep as usual, keep your mind awake and every now and then let it drift trying to monitor it so when you feel you are about to go to sleep you bring your mind awake. Any other way you need to try to shift your awareness away from your physical body, try to feel for your energy body, but you should not try to feel your physical once you have entered a good trance state. And once you get out DO NOT feel for your physical body unless you want to return to it.

As for negs, well what they are can be debated, but if you wish to avoid them there are some things you can do. Realize that on the astral likes attract and emotions can play a big part of what you experience. With this in mind try to keep your thoughts and emotions from turning negative. Try to remain calm and passive reguardless of what you may experience and things should go fine. If you become scared then your emotions can effect how you see things and the situation can turn scary and spiral out of control. No matter what you might see or experience try not to just to conclusions, just be calm and passive. Nothing can hurt you on the astral unless you allow it to, mostly by giving into fear. But all that will happen is you will wake up back in your body. I may not be the person to talk to you about negs because I have never met one. But I say you should not worry about it, for you may never either.

The thing about neg, is that I know that in my physical life I tend to think negative a lot, and the first time I started to feel the invisible, I felt it crowded with negs, and was veeery afraid... Nox I know that since then I managed to get rid of most of them, but can't assure that there are not still one or two, so I'm wanting to be cautious while entering the astral... I might be able to cope with a neg, but I never did it face to face... so that's what makes me afraid, I know all the horrible things I'm able to create in my dreams, and seeing them more real than real as you all say, would sure scare me more than in a dream, where I usually live my life not being that impressed by horrible visions... I may easily say that my fears are not surprises to me and so I can handle them, but I'm not sure they won't be stronger in the astral than in the physical... that's the point!

WalkerInTheWoods

It is my view that negs are not anything to be feared, but I am sure they can be fearful when met face to face. From the information I have gathered I believe that negs are merely the manifestation of our own personal problems and things we need to work through. They maybe be easier to deal with indirectly on the physical but meeting them on the astral can be a good experience as well and may even bring to light things you did not know. Just because an experience may seem unpleasant and scary, it does not mean it is not good or helpful. Work though anything that you feel needs to be resolved and you should be fine. Just do not be afraid to face your fears on whatever plane you may meet them. That is how we grow, work through and facing our fears.

If it makes you feel any better I always feel more positive when I am on the astral. It is just getting use to the different feeling of being out of your physical body. Take it slow until you feel more comfortable with the feelings.

And something I forgot to mention before. I do not suggest having straight sessions for 2+ hours. I would suggest you take a break if nothing has happened after 45 minutes to an hour. Usually if you have not done it by then you are not going to. After that time, get up, move around, maybe do some light exercises, get a drink, just do something else for maybe 10 minutes and then you can try again if you want to. Sometimes the breaks can really help.

Ok I'll try the breaks. Thanx for writing all this about negs, it might help me. I actually did two sessions yesterday, each having lasted 3 hours! I did not see time passing, and felt loads of new things, so it was interesting, then tonight the numbness came back during my sleep, which never happens, surely because I am too tense... I think trying to relax for hours can't be bad, even if it leads to not a single vibration. Anyway I'll try your limit of 45 minutes to one hour, and eventually tell you what it changes. I feel like any new sensation is something I gain forever, and new sensations are what I chase most, thats why I stay so long sometimes. But maybe the 3d hour is less of a gain than the first 1h30, and I realised that some "work" that lasted a certain time is not really lost when we start to move again: the sensations come back faster after that... hope that my body remebers this work for long, I'll try to practice everyday even if I fear to succeed :) !!

Frère

I let myself go for more than two hours and became very numb
I even felt my hands changing position although I'm sure they did not move. But every time I tryed to control the movement, my physical reacted fast.
So I decided to stop paying attention to everything, and images of dream came. Each time I realised I was starting to dream, I would become awake. Once also, I had a very strong flash of light, and some vibrations flowed fast in my whole body... but I was not ready for fast sensations and came back to the other state of awareness where I started.

Did I approach OBE, AP, or lucid dream?

How can I focus on something while not coming back to awakeness?
