This happened to me years ago but wanted to share it cuz it had such an impact on me.  When I was in high school I had a few experiences where right before I woke up I heard this amazing music.  Hard to describe but it was like one big musical chord with so much depth, resonance, and beauty.  Hearing it made me cry and I was sure that nothing on the face of the earth could make this sound.

Fast forward about 20 years later and one day I started thinking about the music I had heard so long ago.  I decided to pray that it would return cuz I really wanted to hear it again.  About a week later I awoke out of sleep and into an altered state.  My thinking was crystal clear.  A classical guitar piece started up.  Slow and simple in the beginning--actually the player hit a few wrong notes and I thought he/she was a beginner.  Then the piece just took off and became intricate, flashy and fast.  No more mistakes and the player was obviously amazing now.  The score of the piece was actually running across my field of vision so that I could watch every note go by as it was being played.  The piece was amazing and nothing I had ever heard before so I knew it was coming from an outside source and not my subconscious.  I listened amazed from beginning to end.  The piece was probably about 5 min. long.  Then amazingly after it was over, another piece started up.  It was a symphony.  Truly the most amazing symphony I've ever heard.--not in the style of say Beethoven or Mozart but more modern.  Not like those modern classical pieces that everyone pretends to like but really hates because it has no melody.  This music had such an amazing mix of melody and tension/suspension chords that made it so beautiful and gripping.  I didn't see the score this time but I had the ability to turn the volume up or down, go inside the orchestra like I was a player, or stand far away from it like I was hundreds of feet away.  Then in the middle of the piece, all the instruments stopped except for the french horns.  There were probably 10 or so french horns playing and this music was by far the most amazing thing I've ever heard.  All the horns had interwoven parts with lots of tension and release.  After the french horn choir ended the symphony faded out and I never heard the end.  Then I woke from the trance.  A few days later I heard a piano piece complete with score so I could watch the notes again--just as amazing.  Iv'e never heard the music again after that.  It was interesting that after I prayed for the music to come back, the music I was given was not anything like the original music I had heard in high school. --but just as wow!

Has anyone else heard music in an altered state or OOBE?  If so what was it like?

It only happened once about a few months ago.  I was not expecting to ap.  It was getting late in the morning and I just laid down for a short while and I could hear music.  I thought that was strange, someone has put a CD on.  I could hear it just like someone was playing music close by.  After a while I realised that no one was playing any music or had a CD on.  That was a nice experience.  It is a lot better than hearing awful or strange things.

I've gotten some. Too bad I can't show them off. I've also gotten a lot of great ideas for stories and games.

I've also heard great music in trance. Somehow I believe I also instantly played / composed / improvised it myself. I am a musician, so this would not be too strange for me but maybe we are all capable of doing these things in trance as we draw from our akasic memories and/or our higher self skills, just like the savants / aspergers (the specially gifted autists) do with their amazing expert skills in one area in daily physical life.

When in altered states, I have come up with my own pop songs because they would literally just start playing automatically as if someone turned the radio on. Only thing is, none of these songs existed before they played in my head. I spontaneously composed them at the snap of a finger. Of course, you could say they existed because they manifested in my head. I have a decent memory and will sometimes find myself singing or humming songs that no one else knows about because only I've heard them.  :-P

I awaken constantly in the morning with a song on my mind. Yesterday it was "Tuesday's Gone" by Leonard Skynyrd. A "classic" to say the least.

I find the only way to get rid of it, is to go listen to the song in it's entirety.

So, I happily obliged!  :-D

That sounds AMAZING! Wow... Imagine following a score and everything... And how it evolved while you were listening to it.

I've heard music a few times. Beautiful melodies and I followed every note, trying to take it in. In the waking I normally have a difficult time following different voices at the same time, but I could take in every line of each voice and instrument without any problems. An unequaled feeling. Once I fully awaken, however, it's gone and I can no longer even remember the melody. It can be rather haunting. But beautiful...

Wake up very slowly keeping it in your mind. It's tricky but very good for keeping the memories from the state.

Thanks for sharing, everyone!  There's definitely some awesome music out there just waiting to be heard and composed too!

Have any of yous lovely folk ever been on a journey in a bus or a loud vehicle where you could make up a tune.. or rather hear a tune as if it was being played on the radio?

I found this out once when on a bus ride through Spain. I told a few people and some of them also noticed this. I figured it was because a droning engine creates a cacophony of frequencies that can be arranged into whatever tune one wants to hear.

So I would then go further and theorise that it isn't an existing 'tune' in the nonphysical... because really... there is no 'sound' per se in the nonphysical. Rather it consists of everything... therefor it is the 'explorer' who makes the tune from existing possibilities.

We are in a rather 'super' state of being when nonphysical. I think this same ability of hearing music is related to the visual aspects of experiences I have had when building objects.

Fans, vacuum cleaners automated machines, the list is almost endless. In a daydream state of mind its easy.  If only it could be recorded.
Its far better and extremely real when phasing.
