It's not possible to stop your imagination if you want to increase deep sleep try a delta frequency using binaural beats or isometric ones that should increase the delta waves in your brain giving you a deep stage 4 sleep. Stage 4 sleep is the level below R.E.M. Where your body does most of its healing and recharging.

Hi,
There is a way to almost stop all your mind chatter.
Its simple and it works.
Remember the times you've sat at your window and watched a thunderstorm. The flashes come from the sky and followed by thunder.
Based on this you may have counted the seconds between the two.
The idea is to not count the seconds, just wait for the rumble.
Now take this flash away and imagine it while you're meditating or phasing.
Once comfy is the best time to start.
After the imagined flash you now actually wait for the rumble. Convince yourself its coming and wait. Keep waiting ...
Should your mind chatter start again which it will, imagine another flash brighter than the first, wait for the thunder, you know its coming.
Keep repeating the above and your mind will be relaxed faster than most methods. The idea is you need to make the waiting period as long as you can without mind chatter. Eventually you'll be good at this and can phase to a point for RVing within 3 mins. A little longer to reach the blackness.
The best physical conditions for this is total silence and constant dim lighting or none if you prefer.
Binaural or similar can be used but you're not to focus on them at all. Know they are there and disassociate yourself from the sound.
Practice and enjoy.

QuoteIt's not possible to stop your imagination

It is possible and very simple, if its trained. One can learn to concentrate so intensively on other senses, that the eyes are "deactivated". If practiced a time, one learns to "switch" of the visual perception.

I use it most nights, because i can fall in this way faster into sleep or sleep paralyzis (deactivating visual perceptions increases passivity). I can even switch it of during day, if i need to do it. I watch around the world and i see nothing or if i want, only my hypnagogic images, while my eyes are open. Sometimes very useful, especially, when im bored and i can not go away (like in waiting rooms).

Oh you just want to fall asleep faster...

You already answered that in your initial post.  Phasing...
You said you fall asleep usually while practicing phasing.  So just do that then.

The goal isn't to stop the images from forming...  those are hypnogogic images.  That's what you want!

The point is to simply quiet the "surface thoughts".  The thoughts you have when you're practicing like "am I do it right?" or "maybe I should do something else instead" or the thoughts where you're second guessing yourself, THOSE are the thoughts you want to quiet.

You can practice at anytime.

Totally...

What about controlling the images or trying to form images... like one creates an imagined audio mantra for TM? Or is it the allowing of their random 'no thought' quality that works?

astralee... The quandary you are posing is like going onto an Angling and Fishing forum and asking how you avoid bodies of water.  :-D
