So, I've only been trying to project for a couple weeks now. In the 3 times I have come close to actually separating from my body, I've noticed a couple patterns. Hopefully I can gain a bit of insight. :P

The very first time, I didn't know what to expect. I'd read a technique about making a triangle or something with my ears and my third eye. So I go for a nap, basically. After like 30 minutes, I fell into a light dream. It was nothing really symbolic, mostly just random, and then I started to wake up. I remember everything going black--I had turned the t.v. off earlier, but I was hearing the t.v. program playing and behind that, I heard some AM radio station. I was like, "wait, I turned the t.v. off..." and in realizing that, the vibrations started. Violently. I thought I was having a seizure, really. I was sitting up when I realized I'd fallen asleep lying down and I got too excited and snapped out it lol. I was high on the excitement for a while.

I tried again a couple days later at a friend's house when everyone went to the store and I stayed behind. Same thing--fell into a dream, woke up, felt the vibrations.. but I concentrated too hard on getting out that it faded away and I was awake. Sadface. ):

For the next week and a half, no matter how hard I tried, I couldn't even get the vibrations. I was kinda worried i'd lost the ability, haha. Buuut, today, I took a short nap. I didn't even think about trying to project, but I woke up and the ringing in my ears was deafening, so I focused on it and BAM. Vibrations. I heard an AM radio station again. So this time, I remembered to stay focused and not get excited. I decided to just try and.. um, walk out of my body. I moved my arm, but I thought I had physically moved it and immediately gave up. ... Shortly after when I had clear thought, I realized my arm never moved physically and the arm that I did move was much lighter..

Duh, Vaux. So, what have I learned? I can only project during naps. Also, walking/rolling out seems to be the best choice for me.

If there's one thing I've learned about projection, it's that nothing, from the techniques that work (and fail) to "get out" all the way down to what you ultimately experience, are consistent among everybody.  To my way of thinking, every person's experience of all the above is 99% unique.  It seems we're all supposed to invent our own methods.  I'm sure there are many people who had success using the techniques of <anybody who publishes techniques> but for the most part, everybody seems to come up with their own unique spin on things.

Life seems to love that concept ... "unique" ...

Hello Vauxhall,

for only working at this two weeks, I'd say you're making really good progress! It may seem like you are only taking very small steps in the beginning but that's the way it appears to be for most people, myself included.

Personally, I think that early on for a new projector, some kind of internal neural/spiritual re-wiring may need to take place. That may be, in it's simplest form, just giving yourself permission to go oob.

It can be very slow-going at first. It's hard to tell when to push, when to pull, and when you should do nothing and just observe.

A few observations:

The first few times the vibrations hit can be fierce and frightening. They smooth out over time. Some people get results by trying to 'increase' the vibes, others just 'follow' them. Both ways have worked for me and yet, sometimes I can't do anything with them.

It's normal to be where you're at right now, with nothing happening for 2,3, 4 or more sessions, feeling like you're stuck. I don't think you are stuck; I think some of that re-wiring is going on at a subliminal level. It'll take off again shortly.

The television and radio that you heard is a local, in-body, pre-exit phenomenon that disappears as soon as you exit. But before that it can prove very distracting and can manifest in countless ways. I think it's generally referred to as 'astral noise'. Some think it's generated by the local astral environment, others by the projector. Maybe it's a little of both, since my own astral noises take on a particularly personal character. Anyway, you had the right reaction--you quickly rationalised the improbability of it and then ignored it. Actually, it also served as a lucid trigger for you which then brought on the vibes.

Daytime naps seem to be the perfect balance for both mind and body, not too tired and not too awake. Once you get some practice you'll be able to find that state of mind at other times.

Okay, so the next time you go through the vibrations and the ear ringing and you're at what feels like a potential exit point, try this--Say in your mind, " I want to float up. I give myself permission and I promise I'll return!" And feel it.

Just some thoughts, hope it helps. Have fun!!

Yeah, I've noticed that I don't seem to conform to the "norm" of astral projection if there was a norm. But, the ends justifies the means. :P

EscapeVelocity -- Thanks for the insight! (: I remember reading somewhere that hearing radio frquencies was because of the frequency we're on as we're leaving our bodies. The whole process of leaving is the process of increasing our frequency, so we pick up the waves of things on certain frequencies as we go.

Or something like that lol.  Anyway, I'll keep your words in mind the next time I try! (:

A question in general -- has anyone projected in a moving car? Is it dangerous? I'd imagine not, and i'd imagine it's quite the experience, I'm just wondering other opinions. c:

I once had a partial exit while driving because I was so sleepy...not fun.  It scared the mess out of me.  My astral head flitted back behind my body and I panicked and snapped back to full awareness instantly.  It's a very odd feeling, different than the separation feelings when just sitting still because there's also the momentum of the car.

I would never, ever try it while driving haha! I'm sure that was a horrifying experience. :\ Could end badly.. I'm glad you're still in one piece, lol. I meant more like on a long trip somewhere, falling asleep in the backseat or just sitting.. I was on my way back from Pennsylvania when I asked and I was afraid to try projecting in fear that it'd have a bad effect on me.

Well I wasn't trying to do anything.  I was just in the perfect state of mind trying to stay awake while driving and it happened spontaineously.  I'm sure it would really interesting to do while just riding though, not driving. haha.  I only learned about astral projection after I was old enough to be doing all the driving though so I don't get the chance to try it now.
