Last night I flopped down on my bed after a long night of drinking and a 45 minute walk home and started my noticing.  I do this every night before bed and recently I have been having awesome success acheiving hypnogogic imagery and sometimes controlling it a bit.  I slipped into sleep and awoke with a mighty mighty thirst.  I got up, chugged some water, confirmed that I was still intoxicated and flopped back in my bed.  I still had a few hours before I had to get up so I did some more noticing.

I started to see some pulsing lights and something like a keyhole in the distance.  I reached out and pulled them towards me.  I was in a strange dream state observing a typical dream situation and suddenly I slapped myself on the forehead and said out loud "im a freakin idiot!  I've been phased for a while and not even known it."  I began floating around a neighborhood interacting with various people, noting interesting things and moving on.  I was talking with one of my best friends at a scary creepy house when suddenly I felt an extreme tugging, I said to my friend "I guess im going this way now, seeya!" and I was being shot through a tunnel with images of a street, road construction, and detour signs.  I tried to remember what they said but I failed.  I made it to the end of the tunnel and there was a man there.  He floated next to me as I looked at all the images.  I asked his name, which was David, and shook his hand.

He watched me marvel at the images with a fatherly smile. I asked him if he was going to help me remember all of this because I usually have troubles remembering my phasing experiences vividly.  He said he would try but it wasnt up to him.  He told me I should follow him.  We went through a door into a chamber over looking a large dining hall table with about 20 seats.  A mad scientist type was standing in front of a window that seperated us from the table.  He turned to me and said I had a job to do.  I had to rescue the damsel in distress from the maniac opressive king holding her prisoner.  He told me to follow him to a room to the left closed off by giant 30 foot high red doors.  He held the door and I was greeted by a group of people who appeared to be scholars.  Some had clip boards, others had cameras.  The scientist told me to demonstrate my powers.  I looked at him sideways and not wanting to cast any doubt upon myself in the eyes of the group I leaned close to him and whispered "what the hell are you talkin' about???"

He explained that I was not bound by the rules that these people bound themselves to, such as gravity and physical harm.  I was a free mind, unbound by such notions.  He looked up and smiled a worried smile at the group who looked at me with less interest and more impatience.  I had no clue what any of this was about and decided to take a light hearted approach and I struck a superhero pose.  The scientist came over a loud speaker and said "let the demonstration begin".  I stood there, glancing around, expecting to begin the scenario I was told about earlier, but nothing happened.  Looks of excitement turned to confusion amongst the group.  The scientist gestured frantic motions at me.  I was so blown away by the clarity, lucidity and realism of the experience I just sort of chuckled nervously under the glare of the scholars and attempted to formulate an exit plan.  I tried willing myself away, that didnt work.  I tried to fly away but I just smashed into the ceiling and stuck there.  I looked down and one of the people had passed out and the others had their jaws on the floor.  The scientist seemed rather relieved.  I floated back down to applause.  I laughed and said "You've got to be kidding me!  Can I go now???"

Apparently my prayers had been answered and I was shot at insane speeds through a kaleidiscope tube with faces of clowns flashing in neon blue and red.  The realism of the experience had doubled now, I felt I had made a permanent transition and felt no sense of body to return to.  At first I moved at what felt like 65mph or so, similar to hanging your arm out the window on the highway.  I could still move but the speed began to increase drastically until my body seemed to dissapear and I was a point of consiousness flying at mach speed through a carnivalized tunnel to who knows where!

I appeared at a house full of people I knew.  I began to talk to a friend of mine and I felt a tug again, but I knew this one was my body calling.  I was somewhat relieved as the whole experience seemed like an hour or more.  I said "I gotta go, bodies calling." and I awoke with my mind completely blown.

Thanks for sharing it sounded really interesting.

These friends you mentioned were they also phased and if not how could they see you?

that's an nice experience.  makes me want to practice more.

Dragonhawk:

All the people I knew where created by my mind I am assuming.  I was not in a place I was familiar with, I only knew the people.  This has been my most memorable experience and I'm not sure what to make of it to be honest.  I just felt so completely free and I finally had a sense of "I did it, I really phased!"  And it lasted FOREVER!  Usually when I phase im lucky if I get 5 minutes, this took about an hour.  I omitted some stuff because it was personal and some of it was just me bumbling around like an idiot trying to figure out what was going on, chatting with strange people.

Froglet:

Words cannot describe just how awesome this experience was!  Practice my friend, practice every day!!!!!!!!

knightlight,
Congrats.. amazing experience.. Did you remain fully lucid the entire time?
Im at a similar stage as you, getting really good hypnogogic imagery every practice, so hopefully i'll be next :D.

Thanks for sharing

I wasnt just lucid, I was there.  I honestly thought a few times during the experience that perhaps I wouldnt get back to my body.  I can say that all my other experiences pail in comparison as far as lucidity.  I thought I was lucid before, I hadnt seen anything yet!   :D

If you are getting good images then stay with it and your not far behind in my experience.  During my noticing I try to feel for a pulsing in my head too, like a wobbling sound wave.  I did this last night for the first time and I am not sure if it was the reason any of this happened, but I'm not ruling it out as a contributing factor.  At one point I could feel a rising and falling, pulsating wave inside my head and then my hypnoimagery got clearer.  After that I blacked out and woke in the semi lucid dream state that started it all.  Good luck, and godspeed in your attempts, that goes for everyone on these boards!

RooJ

Thanks for the reply, I look forward to more accounts of phasing experiences from you.
I had a good attempt last night, everything was going well and i was getting really good imagery. At the point where i felt i was starting to really enter the imagery, and my field of vision was growing to take up my full sight, i was interupted by hypnic jerks. This happened 3 times in about 5 minutes and contributed to me ending the practice :(.
Ever had these during your experiences?

Thanks

manuel

Thanks for sharing that mate, the whole scientist thing was very interesting.

RooJ:

I'm not sure what you mean by hypno jerks, but there is nothing more annoying than feeling very close then having something mess you up.  I am confident that by what you describe that you are close.  The start of my experiences are different than what most people describe.  I generally dont just phase directly into the images.  I black out and float in a limbo coma state and all of a sudden im someplace.  Unfortunately most of the time I just have a bizzare dream and never become lucid.  Just last night I had a dream about being in a fraternity in college with john candy.  Very strange dream, very vivid, but I was not lucid.  Its like my mind suspends disbelief for me and this has been my greatest hurdle by far.

Manuel:

The scientist part was quite interesting.  Upon awakening I contemplated this part of it many times.  It could be symbolic to the effect that I have crossed some boundary either mentally or otherwise that my mind is trying to get me to accept, or it was just meaningless.  I did feel very connected and felt that I had known David for a long time and when I first saw him I thought perhaps he was a guide of some kind.  The images of the street and the street signs seemed directed at me, like I was supposed to remember them for future reference.  That is why I asked david to help me remember, I felt I was supposed to, to maybe prove to my self that the place I saw was real and important in the future.

Every time I think about it it just makes my brain hurt!

Froglet

knightlight, how do you manage to keep your eyes from moving.  I've asked this many times before but perhaps you'll have a better answer.  I always tend to start to "phase" or see other parts of reality only to find myself try to focus then losing it because my eyes move.

knightlight

I really dont!     I struggled with this (and still do) for months froglet.
Its all about the practice.  Now when my eyes move sometimes it doesnt effect my visions.  You just have to push through it.  Like I said, most of the time I dont use the images and enter them, I black out and wake up phased.  I have only successfully phased by entering images once and it was a freak occurance.  The thing I would suggest to you is to ignore the small bits of movement and try to stay watching the bigger picture.  If you where watching a disco ball reflecting on the wall and you only watched one of the circles moving you would probably puke, but if you instead watch the wall itself you will be able to see all the circles and not even move your eyes.  Thats how I see it.

wow thats intense

i cant wait till i project!!!!!

would you say that you should most likley be able to lucid dream often to phase?

because ti seems to be my dream come true that hasnt yet come true! haha

ive had 1 15 min lucid dream which was just awesome

first thing i would do is meet my spirit guide, wow

but anyways this isn't about my plans ha

also, when you phase and have an experience like this one, does it seem to be alot like a much more vivid lucid dream but better? in a sense?

because these characters, to me, seem like dream characters almost (from what i read)
my name's Ali G
and i have ESP

I dont really draw any distinction between phasing and lucid dreaming.  I guess what I often experience is by definition lucid dreaming because I have a slight bit of time when I lose consciousness.  To me it seems pointless to draw a line between the two.  I often debated in the past as to whether my experiences where lucid dreams or Astral Projections, but in the end I cant tell the difference and its not worth the time.  I have 4 kinds of phasing experiences.

1. Lucid but hazy with a body I can see and move.

2. Lucid but hazy without a body and only a point of consciousness

3. Extremely lucid with a body.

4. Extremely lucid without a body.

What I mean by hazy is that the colors and feelings within the experience are dulled and basically like im half asleep.  I am still thinking and moving within the experience with full control, but its lacking any real in your face value.

By extremely lucid I mean that every color pops out at you and things seem just as real as they do when you are going about your day to day life.  Sometimes even more so.

I would agree that all the characters sound like dream characters.  All of them except for David lacked any real dimension and just seemed to be filling a role.  I think david was a guide or another aspect of myself manifested.

Man, I found out last night that drinking = interesting experiences.  Not that I want to encourage drinking of course, I'm just saying... I had some drinks last night and happened to also have a notable phasing/dreaming experience.  BTW, I'm glad you mentioned the distinction, or lack thereof, between lucid dreaming and phasing... I can't really figure out any difference... more like lucid dreams result from phasing?  That's how it seems to me, even though I may be aware of dreaming before I'm aware of having phased.

As for the annoying eye thing, I've been sort of trying to train myself to "see" independently of my eyes.  I came up with a little exercise.  What I do is:

I close my eyes.  It's all dark, of course, but nonetheless, it's a field of vision.  Think of it as a black screen or something.  It has edges, or limits.  So, I'll focus my physical eyes on the left edge, for example, but I'll turn my *attention* to the right edge.  Then, I'll move my attention all the way around the edges--without moving my physical eyes.  And sometimes, I'll zigzag my attention all over--still without moving my physical eyes.

I've gotten to where I do with my eyes open too... I'll focus on something sitting on my kitchen cabinet, while paying attention to my living room.  It's amazing what you can pick up from your peripheral vision!

thanks for explaining your technique and your very right about peripheral vision!  Peripheral vision picks up all movement, even movement you cant see with your normal vision.

I agree that drinking tends to have some strange effects on your mind.  I have had my most strange and real experiences while sleeping after  a night of a few too many drinks.  I think it relaxes your body AND relaxes your mind, allowing it to explore what it must.

sounds like a cool experience. Seems just like some of the vivid dreams I have.. I ussually cant get complete conscious control. Only partial. I ussually forget to think about OOBE cuz im so immersed in the dream environment. You know its always amazing to be in a cool place you have never been in a dream. Cool stuff man keep trying.

knightlight

QuoteI ussually forget to think about OOBE cuz im so immersed in the dream environment

That is one of my biggest problems when trying to turn dreams into obes.  Its like I just cant realize im dreaming even when the situation is so obviously fantasy.  Recently my attempts at phasing from an awake state have been very successful so I dont even worry about my dreams anymore.  Keep trying!
Profound Impatience makes the blind struggle in Stupidity.

Unison

I have the same freaking problem. Lately ill be focusing and trying to phase into the darkness into my eyes and once I start to do it my eyes start to flutter. I eventually phase into it but soon after my eyes automatically open.. If I use strength to keep them shut it makes me lose focus and I start thinking more about the physical. Ugh. I think this is one of the reasons I stopped trying conscious obes before. The farthest I got was to jet engine sound (vibrations?) then falling sensation and feeling disconnected and a loud sharp pop then my eyes automatically open up. I need freaking help.

knightlight

thats just something you will have to get over i guess.  Practice practice practice my friend.  Once you get used to the sensations and the exit you should be able to keep your eyes closed.  It may take a while but dont you think its worth it?  :D
Profound Impatience makes the blind struggle in Stupidity.

Unison

Yeah I keep telling myself that I need to get over the up to exit spot. I feel that I will easily be able to get over the eye flutters but the popping crack noise in my head then opening of eyes.. I have no idea how to get over that.. it just happens out of nowhere for no freakin reason. I could be focused as ever too. Its as if something doesnt want me to project but realized im about to then it interferes and snaps me back in. IF YOUR READING THIS BACK OFF DUDE I WANT OUT.  :D  I guess back to trying.. im going to try and phase into the great void again and attempt to project. Later

knightlight

it could be something subconscious and I'm sure over time you will stop it.  I used to freak out every time I felt like I was going to project and I would end it.  After that my eyes would always spaz out on exit so I had to keep trying.  Now I am getting over that finally.  I think its just a long process of removing obstacles and finding new ones.  Someday a year from now I hope I will have it all figured out and cleared a path for myself, but I have learned that this is definitely a time consuming process!

QuoteI'm glad you mentioned the distinction, or lack thereof, between lucid dreaming and phasing... I can't really figure out any difference... more like lucid dreams result from phasing?

To make a distinction, it's helpful to use a model like Monroe's or Frank's. For instance, a lucid dream would take place in Frank's PFC-2 (Focus 2), and I'm not sure about this, but possibly Monroe's Focus 12. (If you have a hard time understand these models, especially Monroe's, check out the latest book review I posted [plus, it's written by a librarian]).

A lucid dream, for me, after phasing would mean that I had lost awareness. My lucid dreaming experiences were all distinctly less "real" than what I would consider my OBE experiences. I would consider lucid dreams to have a much lower ratio of awareness compared to, say, a Phasing experience.

If I were pressed, I would steal a quote from Mark Twain and say the difference between a lucid dream and an OBE is the difference between the lightning bug and the lightning (original quote: "The difference between the almost right word & the right word is really a large matter--it's the difference between the lightning bug and the lightning.")

At first the difference might seem subtle, but I believe it is an important difference.

Unison

Well Im sure I will also. I just got done trying to meditate and focus. I tried to phase but couldnt. I couldnt concentrate or focus. I would lose it everytime. Ill try again tonight before sleep. I know this stuff is time consuming. I ended up having a pretty vivid dream for the most part. I forgot to write it down. Pretty stupid dream. I was being chased throughout it. I had a ladyfriend with me the whole time. Everyone was trying to kill us. We were trying to get somewhere but were hampered at any expense. Cars, belongings and such. Take it ez. Keep me informed of your experiences
