I live in a noisy house, and I was thinking of creating a white noise track to drown out the noise when I meditate/attempt to project. Would the white noise affect the meditation/projection?
For some it could definitely help produce a trance state. Others it could annoy, but it's worth a try. Sometimes I use small foam earplugs I get at the hardware store.

I'd like to do that, but those always fall out of my ears.
The ones I get you squeeze really small and put in your ear canal and then they expand, sticking in there tight. I'll rip one in half and put half in one ear and half in the other. I get 8 pair for about $2. After a couple minutes I don't even notice them.
I run a fan every night, even in the winter to drown out all the demons when they sling stuff across the room (just kidding). But the fan thing works for me and helps, for sleeping, dreaming, popping out.. etc.
Yeah, I do that during the summer too. I know some sounds distract people, but I find that on a nice day the nature sounds can be helpful - breeze through leaves, birds, etc. I guess it helps set the atmosphere.
I've also had good experiences with a self-hypnosis track with a guy saying things like "I'll count to ten and you'll deepen your relaxation 10 times". But I think self-hypnosis is hit or miss for a lot people.

I respond MUCH better to mediation while Im playing music. Not the soothing new age kind. Grand symphonic metal. I find that what comes to me syncs up with the music on its own.
