I had a really peculiar expierence just last night.  It really began when me and my friend decided to go down to the woods at dark to see if it really was haunted (it has been a question if entities from lower planes manifested in the woods for some time).  We traveled through the greater part of the woods then came out and sat on the hill.  Since my eyes had adjusted to the dark and my senses were heightened, I just then noticed all the stars in the sky.  I decided to lay back, despite the damp grass, and just look.  Then, I simply focused on one star, wondering what would happen if I concentrated on it.  Slowly but surely, the entire world seemed to melt away.  Every single other star vanished.  The sharp outline of the trees was gone.  I began to feel a falling sensation, the same that I have felt during several of my other astral projections.  I felt myself being pulled away from my body when... "Patrick, are you asleep?" brought me back to reality.
I don't know, guys.  It might turn out to be a promising technique.  Tell me what you think.  I know I didn't fully project, but I was almost there.  It only seemed right that it fit into this category.

Drift

Ive used this technique before without achieving the state I wanted, I always seem to hit a 'jerk' reaction where I jerk back into conciousness just before the drop.

Im not sure if anyone else has got it to work but for me I seem to be to concious and my mind wont let loose when the 'out' point comes, instead it knee jerks me back again.

But the body needs a degree of security that can only be afforded by a room with a door.

Notice that Synchronicity instantly kicked in to pull you out of your Projection before you could become 'vulnerable'.

Or you can get someone to guard your body... from intruders and small animals.

It reminds me of a story about Old Shirdi Sai Baba - a Sufi-Hindu Saint from India from the last century.  I decided to do a 3 Day Trance or out of body experience, and put one of his most reliable followers in charge of tending his body.  Well, he went so DEEP that he appeared absolutely DEAD, and it took all of the Assistant's physical and mental resources to assure that the Authorities did not insist upon burying the Saint.  Indeed, Old Shirdi Sai Baba had anticipated the possibility and instructed that if he were to be buried, then he should be buried in such and such a place, with one kind of Flag to mark the head position, and another kind of flag to indicate the feet.  Fortunately it did not come to that.

Interesting.  Could be useful if someone has problems focussing

Do you remember what star it was, by chance?  What color or how far from the Moon it was?  I'm not saying there's a correlation between the star and the would-be projection, but it'd be interesting to know just in case

I believe it was Sirius, maybe Alpha Centarui.  But I have noticed that this works with just about anything of that nature.  Once, on an eigth-grade field trip to a museum, we went into a star dome.  They turned out the lights and turned on this ball that made an accurate representation of the night sky.  As it just so happened, I wasn't feeling good at all (horrible, actually; my IBS was kicking up) so I just sat and stared, trying to forget the intense pain in my stomach.  My eyes settled on one of the points of light on the dome and I just stared at it.  Everything else seemed to vanish, just as it did when I was staring at the actual night sky.  I find it rather interesting.  And if anyone knows what causes this, please let me know.

Eloquence

Intriquing, I often try and picture the starry sky beyond my roof often when I try and project.
When there's no more room in the oven, the bread will walk the earth.

hmmmmmmmm!

"When you wish upon a star, makes no difference who you are
Anything your heart desires will come to you

If your heart is in your dreams, no request is too extreme
When you wish upon a star as dreamers do

(Fate is kind, she brings to those who love
The sweet fulfillment of their secret longing)

Like a bolt out of the blue, fate steps in and sees you thru
When you wish upon a star, your dreams come true"

well, everyone knows that walt disney was secretly introducing astral projection to postwar youth as a reaction against communism.

....of course that's BS (I hope).  But kind of fun to imagine.  And you have to admit, those lyrics are pretty cryptic for a children's film.
