Title: My first (intentional) experience.
Post by: Palooza on December 16, 2010, 08:52:55
Hey everyone!
It has been a while since I have visited here.
Hope you have all been well.

Quite a while ago I had my first out-of-body. It was pretty cool at first, everything was bright, even though it was dark. Then out of nowhere, a shapeless, formless "thing" had appeared, darting around the room. I had no idea what it was. I can't even think of a way to explain it. It really was shapeless and formless, nothing was there, but something was there, I could see that there was something. It almost seemed like distorted air. Difficult to picture, I know, I can't put it any better. I didn't react fearfully to it, I wasn't afraid, but I was curious. And as soon as I started to really wonder what it could be, it darted over to me in the blink of an eye. It was right beside me, not doing anything, then it would dart away and straight back again a few moments later. It was almost as if it did have some kind of intelligence and it was curious about me just as I was about it. It suddenly stopped dead on the other side of the room. For roughly 15 seconds I stood there looking at it, and then it vanished. I took a step forward and then awoke in my regular body. My experience had instantly ended, mid-step.

That was months ago now. Ever since then, for reasons I can't explain, I have had little success in this field.

I don't really have a question, but any comments or ideas about what happened, and why I can't project again would be pretty cool :-)

Thanks guys.
Matt.

Hidden stress could be holding you back maybe  :|

Possible, but highly doubtful. I'm not a stressing type.

I just got over a 10 month dry spell.

The first couple months I was physically incapable because of health issues.

Unfortunately I neglected to get back to my practice when i was able.

This made it a lot harder when I did try to get back into it.

What I noticed the other day when I projected was that I have been way too mentally active when I've been trying lately.

So my success the other day was because I was sleepy.  I was ready for a nap and actually fell asleep for about 20 minutes then woke up with vibrations.  I think that going to sleep to take a nap with a strong intention to project is the ticket.

On reading your experience my first impulse is to theorize that the thing you encountered was probably a spirit. You didn't mention any particular size for it so I'm assuming it was small, like an animal, maybe a cat or a dog? Do you live with any animals, or have any of your previous pets died recently? It may have been a person, of course, but that kind of behaviour is strange for any person, even a spirit.

The reason for some things seeming shapeless, formless, dark, shadowy, etc. in the astral is due to our mind not being able to comprehend certain things, so it automatically censors that which we might have trouble facing. It's something which can lessen with experience.

Sounds like a spirit

It was much taller than I. If it had a recognizable face of some sort, I would have to look at least 50 degrees vertically to look it in the eye.
I have really been looking forward to another projection in hope to encounter it again. The last couple of nights have seen better results than usual. Vibrations, but they fade away after a short while. Then I give up and go to sleep.
I might start trying after having had some sleep. Every time I have tried, it has been at night, just as I've laid down to sleep. I haven't tried after already getting some rest. So I think I'll give that a shot and see if I get further.

As for that thing I met with during my first projection. Hopefully I meet with it again. But if it was some kind of intelligent entity, then it may be hard to tell if I'm seeing the real thing again, or if I'm just seeing something artificial that has manifested itself from my own expectations and hopes.

I think you experienced your own energy body, and when you reintegrated with it you woke up in-body.

You say you haven't had much success, what are you doing in the way of a discipline?

In the way of a discipline?

I'm afraid I don't quite understand the question.
I'll do my best to give you an answer which I think fits.

I've just been doing what I did to project that one night. I don't even come close.
I have had progress recently, but even then, it is very limited progress.

Exactly.

I lay down on my back, shut my mind up, focus on nothingness, and try to fall asleep while keeping my mind awake.

For some reason, it just doesn't work now. I can't drift off. I just lay there for ages like a weirdo.
And then when I finally say "this is nerds, it's not happening tonight" I roll over and fall asleep within minutes.

Wow, that sounds incredibly boring.  No wonder you keep falling asleep!  :)

Instead of focusing on "nothingness"... try to keep your mind active.
Actually, I'd highly suggest "noticing" to you!

That's what I first started doing until I did the boring method one night and succeeded.
I'll try noticing again and see if I can get back into this.
Thanks, Xanth.

hehe

In any case, just keep trying to keep your mind a bit more active.
Visualize or notice whatever you need to in order to attain that goal.  :)
