That sinking feeling

Hi, all. Thought I might recount an interesting, though ultimately a little disappointing, experience I had today.

I got up this morning a little earlier than usual to have coffee with my partner, and after he went to work I went back to bed. I wasn't really tired, but I thought I might lay back and practice some focus techniques and see what happened. I figured, worst case, I'd just get a little nap in before I had to go and actually start having a day.

I lay for some amount of time just observing the back of my eyelids, chilling out and thinking nothing much, when my upper body began to feel both heavy and thin... sort of a weird, staticky feeling, if that makes any sense, and I felt the sensation of vertigo, as though the head of the bed was sinking down under me. I thought about moving to one side, and the feeling became that of spinning, head tipped toward the ground, to one side. "If I can keep this up," I thought, "I bet I'll get clean away from my body."

It kept up for a while, until I felt that I was fully revolving. I curled my 'legs' under me and opened my eyes to find myself crouched on the very solid wood floor of my very well lit bedroom. All the lights were on, including the ceiling lamp, which I rarely turn on, and I could hear my partner banging around in the kitchen. It looked as though I'd knocked everything off of the nightstand from my revolutions in and through the bed, and the covers were tangled in knots. I was very disappointed that it hadn't worked, that I hadn't left my body after all.

I stood up and walked into my living room and began what was, for all intents and purposes, a normal-type dream.

I woke up about two hours later. So that's about it. :) I feel like I could have really gotten somewhere if I just had enough wherewithal to realize I wasn't really awake when I opened my eyes that first time. But I feel like that's a fairly common problem with my sense-surround dreams- I get tactile, aural, and even olfactory feedback, so I fail to notice I'm not awake anymore.

Any thoughts?
