OMG!!!! Some help me get farther!

Today, I attempted astral travel, using the deep breathing technique while clenching and releasing muscles from toe to head. 

I was imagining sinking into the bed...then when I felt pretty heavy...I tried to lift up, and I actually FELT myself start to loosen up, my chest was raising first.  But I'm concerned that it was just my breathing.  But I felt stuck, like I couldn't get out

Then out of nowhere I could feel the "buzzing" or "vibrations" that many describe, but just faintly. and all noise just disappeared. IT WAS SO WIERD.

Then, opened my eyes and spoiled everything.

I'm not entirely sure I was fully relaxed.  How do I know for sure if I put my physical mind to sleep?  And how do I "lift" from the bed.

When you feel the vibrations come, hang on to them as long as possible. To me it feels like im being electrocuted but without the pain. Do not open your eyes. If you cant see already try to say in your head "vision now" or "clarity now" or something along those lines. Although I've never heard of the technique you're using good job! If it works it works so keep on. :-D

But what about the whole "I feel like I'm stuck thing"?  And what am I supposed to focus on at this point?

You should feel like your stuck, this is refered to as sleep paralysis. At this point dont try to move your physical body. Instead keep everything mental. All you have to do is think it and it will happen. If you start to move your physical body the vibrations will go away and you will wake up. If this happens don't do anything, don't move at all just focus your attention back where you were and the vibrations should come back. This feeling of being stuck that I said is called sleep paralysis is the true definition of "mind awake, body asleep." When you go to bed your brain shuts down the body so that when you dream you don't physically act out your dreams and harm yourself or others. You were conscious in this state so your mind was awake and your body was asleep. When you get to this point just maintain what you are doing, this is the precursor to astral projection. You can try several techniques at this point to exit. You can try to sit up, roll out, slip out of your feet, the rope technique and more. Be sure when you do these techniques to keep everything mental, think about rolling out or pulling on a rope, or imagine your astral body doing it. Do not try to do it physically. You're on the right track. Keep up the good work. A book that I highly reccommend is Astral Dynamics by Robert Bruce. This book is like the encyclopedia of astral projection and is all the information you need to understand everything. You can find it at Barnes and Nobel and most book stores.

I attempted again last night and the same thing happened.  The wierd thing is that I still feel like my body is awake, like I could move it if I wanted to...not like I'm paralyzed at all.

Actually I almost convinced myself that the vibrations were in my head...like I wanted them to happen just so I could see what they feel like.

But the thing I need to know the most is how do you absolutely know when your physical body is asleep? :?

This is a hard one to answer. When you get there, trust me you will know. During the separation process you are still very low on the astral plane and lots of weird things can happen. Everybody is different so you may have different experiences. Let me tell you some of my experiences. I'll start out by relaxing just watching the "show" behind my eyelids. I then try to calm my mind and then I'll start a meditation. I then enter a hypnagogic state which is near sleep. I am very aware of my breathing and my heartbeat. Sometimes so much it startles me. I stay in this state and pretty much wait for vibrations. When I get the vibrations they usually start in the hands for me and I concentrate on making them stronger throughout my body. Now with the vibrations I typically feel like I stuck my finger in the electrical socket x 100 but without the pain. In conjuction with this you will almost always hear tones or static. I always hear hemi-sync like sounds. Once you are in this state you should be able to see behind your closed eyelids. Although you can see things it may be fuzzy and your not so much aware of your body. I actually can't recall ever seeing my body. For me when im in this state (still in body with vibrations and noise) I feel like im in another world, there is just a sense of knowing for me. The longer you practice you will learn when the right time to seperate is and try the techniques I told you before. If your not sure you are in sleep paralysis next time just sit up. Physically open your eyes and sit up. If you are successful you weren't in sleep paralysis. If you are in sleep paralysis you might be able to twitch a finger or so but you won't move. A lot of people get scared here because they feel like they are stuck and they might hallucinate (audio and/or visual). Don't worry just know that there is a higher power, maybe call for an angel if your scared. If you do get stuck in sleep paralysis remember that once you realize it you will become more physically conscious and within a few secs or so it will go away and you will be awake. Try telling yourself every night "I will remember" and "I will astral project" this is priming your subconscious. Also I reccommend keeping a journal. Don't try to hard. Do try all the techniques and methods available in the forums. I noticed I had the best results when I quit trying so hard and finally let my subconscious take over. Remember everybody is different and different techniques will have different results. Not everybody gets vibrations or sleep paralysis.

Thanks for sharing your experiences with me.  It really helps me put things into perspective.

I am currently reading Astral dynamics, which is quite a good read.  I think  I'll try to project again once I finish reading it.  For you others that want the link, colden provided one or you can look on scribd.com, which has many other books you read on the subject.

In my past OBEs, every time I had the vibration I pictured myself staring at the ceiling up close, like I am floating in the air above my body. I hold the image in my mind then a few second later I will start rising and my vision kick-in after that.

You sound the same I did a few weeks ago, Cami! And then someone gave me some very magical advise, it's very simple, and it works amazingly well. "Stop trying so hard." Relax with it, don't try to force things, and it will take care of itself.

oo thanks to "cami" now i think  i got something new relaxing and not pushing hard i am doing that already lol but the new is thinking that the vibrations to get stronger xD

Yes stop trying so hard it will inhibit your progress. I am most successful when I sleep all night, wake up in the morning and go back to bed with intentions of projecting. Works well considering you're already in a trance.

yeah i havent tried doing it in the morning...i always forget to that's why my dream recall sucks  :-P

Ive been talking to my grandmother, she is a regular projector, and she told me the same exact thing "stop trying so hard" but its hard not try hard, especially when you hit a milestone and just, like get excited and ruin it all. And you know you just want it sooooooooo bad and it's like GOD PLEASE!!

You describe your vibrations almost verbatim when I describe mine to people. I have always noticed through my life when people have a hard time describing something that makes me want to try it myself so I can form my own opinion. That enables me to be able to describe things for others that alot of people have trouble describing. But yes, just like with you, i tell people I feel like I am being electrocuted but with no pain. Or I tell them my whole body feels covered in the sensation you feel when your foot or arm falls asleep but without the prickly sensation. I also notice the noise I hear DOES sound like hemisync noises. It sounds like waves crashing on the ocean or wind blowing past my ear, like it does when you are outside with high wind (like at the ocean!) or when you stick your head outside your car while its going down the road (not recommended!!!!). I can increase and decrease the vibrations also, and the sound increases in volume with it also. Very weird stuff. Another way to describe the sound is heavy rain on your roof increasing and decreasing in strength. This is how all of these sensations were back in 1995, when I had my one and only OOBE. I am back to square one now trying to get back into it and get back to that point. I was once like the OP also, I was getting discouraged, I felt like I was wasting time, I felt silly. But my determination and resolve paid off, and about a week later (after praying for it) I got my answer and validation. I had a fully conscious OOBE with conscious separation from body and was able to see myself in bed as I floated up at great speed into the ceiling. I also saw through my eyelids as it happened as well. I have been practicing it for not even a whole month now and I am seeing results. My dream recall is back, dreams are more real, and I am having more dreams. One night last week I was able to induce the vibrations for about 3 seconds, and I felt a momentary separation 4 inches to the right. But I got too excited and woke up LOL! Been trying to replicate it since :) Ah well, all in due time I suppose. OP is farther than me at this point, once I get the vibrations I know I am home free! All you have to do is USE the vibrations as energy to propel you out of your body. Thats what they are, is energy. And when you can tap into that, you can do anything. Dont give up!
