Whatever I try, for some reason, I just can't project. I've been trying for months now, and the closest I've gotten was a light trance/rapid heartbeat. It's very frustrating. So, if you're an experienced projector, can you post everything you do, from relaxation to projection? It will definitely help out the newbies like me. I'll post what I do, but I can only get to a light trance, so I'm sure it won't be very helpful.

1. I stretch every part of my body. Arms, legs, core, back . . everything.

2. I lay down in my bed, and I take three very deep breaths.

3. To enter a trance, I quiet my mind (to the best of my abilities) and I visualize myself falling down a very deep cavern. Almost like a bottomless elevator shaft. As I'm falling, the light at the top quickly fades away . .

And that's as far as I get.

Wow I could swear that I could have written that post! I'm in exactly the same position. Do you get a heavy sensation, a feeling that your body's all numb?

For me I've gotten to the point where I'm not really aware of my body unless I want to move my body to quit practicing. I've also gotten to the point where my concentration starts to fade (around 20 mins into meditation) and I get sleepy.

Just to add to the post, how do we know when we're ready to project?

I'm pretty sure that the 'Techniques' section in Permanent Astral Topics has mine.

i want to tell you how i project im new too its been 8 months
i try to sleep at 4pm or 5pm (trying to sleep at times when normally I dont increased my chance to have lucid dream)
i first sleep (sometimes i have lucid dream sometimes nothing or just a dream) and when i wake up i feel dizzy but relaxed
immediately after i try to ap but not using any techniques i just keep laying down and I try not to fall asleep again
sometimes a different feeling comes (i cant describe it) and i say thats it (i still feel my body) i dont force anything to happen i just let it come feeling grows stronger(it takes 1 second) and in 3 seconds i feel like something threw me into the air then (when it happens i dont feel my body anymore)
i start to see i sometimes see the room i sleep in and sometimes i dont understand what i see (blurry) (almost every time i see the room i try to ap in)(i tested it when i try to ap in different rooms i see the room that i sleep in)(and lights change too when i turn lights off or on to test)
it lasts about 3-4 seconds then im back but it gets better , 3-4 seconds now but maybe after a month 1 minute

and staying awake till 4-5 am increased my chance to have sleep paralysis

staying awake till 4-5 am and trying to sleep at times when normally I dont increased my chance to have astral projection
it seems like when im very very tired i can project easily

I lay down. Breath in 2 seconds through the nose while stomach is rising (to use diaphram to breath), then out 2 seconds through the mouth while stomach lowers. I count out the breaths as to keep the mind focused and away from complex thoughts. I do this to the point where I almost forget what I am doing, and when hypnagogia sets in I will maintain my focus on not losing consciousness. Within a few minutes the vibrations will start for me (usually) then I will just "listen" holding my mind blank, which usually makes the vibrations sweep in my head stronger. Once they are almost at their peak I can force myself out, or I can wait it feels like Im being swept away from my body regardless whether I want to or not, and Ill find myself out. Thats it, its not complicated [my method] but it works really well for me. If Im having a dry spell which does happen then I will do something like listen to Robert Monroe's hemi sync on my mp3 player, which sometimes helps the focus and out of the body all depending, plus it is pretty relaxing so that does have an effect. Anyway good luck.

Yeah I tried looking for that yesterday...obviously bad at finding things. Do you remember any key words I can search for to find it?

Don't worry I can look through your posts history, hopefully you're not a serial poster :)

How long does it take you to project normally? i recently recorded one of my meditations, I could have sworn I was meditating for like 50 minutes when it was barely 25 minutes! And I wasn't even tired.

I've had really intense vibrations before quite a few times, the ones that seem like you're gonna pass out...but nothing happens afterwards :(

If something is not working , its better to switch to another technique.
I think you should replace this 3rd step with something else, like focusing on the noise in the ears and waiting till the body starts buzzing gently.

Xanth

Liminalitus and GBob...
I've got a single question for you two.

When you sit down to meditate, what are your expectations?

Well, I usually meditate and then try to project straight afterwards. Is this bad?

When I meditate I normally try to relax the body and clear the mind of unwanted conscious thoughts in hopes of altering my consciousness to that of the theta state. I then do this until I get tired/can't focus anymore.

I don't normally expect anything in meditation other than trying to project.

I found it, however it's not too descriptive.  I may post another one just to clarify it, since I don't have the ability to edit my own post- I think it has to do with the 'permanence' of the thread.

That's what I was hoping you'd say.  :)
Lose all expectations, including that of "trying to project" and just accept whatever comes to you.
It's okay to have projection as your goal, but "try" without "trying"... if that makes any sense.  LoL

Ah that should make things easier then :) At least I won't be fustrated at not being able to project if I'm not trying.

Oh. I sit down and meditate TO project . . I guess I should ease my expectations as well

I think I have an unhealthy obssession with AP lol...it's all I ever think about! I know there's dedication and all, but I think it's gone a bit too far. Perhaps I should think about other things...

your chance to have ap will be greatly increased if you think about it all the time :D

kurtykurt42

I too was obsessed with it when i first started, as I usually am with most things. I spoke with a guide about this and she told me that the Human Compulsion is one of our greatest strengths. An irresistible impulse to act, regardless of the rationality of the motivation.

Just make sure you learn everything you can about AP so that you can do it correctly. Read and re-read the older posts in this forum. Especially those from smart guys such as Frank and Adrian. You can also find dozens of free e-books online that are great as well.

Did you mean a spirit guide or a human guide? Everytime I try to speak with a spirit guide I am convinced that I'm just making the things up myself. Talking to a spirit guide about AP would help so much.

kurtykurt42

She was a spirit guide named Sky who was helping me for a few weeks. I am usually suspicious of spiritual guides for some reason but she was very nice and caring and answered all of my questions. Now a days i explore the astral on my own without the help of guides.

Vibra

After Vibrations I do a double spinning method. Its hard to explain but it works beautifully. Spin your consciousness clockwise while spinning your "body" counterclockwise. I'm not sure if its the "body" because at that point I am unaware of my body. This causes major vertigo but instantly goes away once I have gotten out. I have tried many many methods but this is the only one that works for me. I have heard of spinning your astral double on top of your your physical body but found it much more effective to spin both in opposite directions. I start it slow but it accelerates on its own to a very fast pace quite quickly. I warn you though, This method produces an incredible sensation, being major vertigo for a few seconds.
Good luck
