The man was a neg most likely.  It's purpose was to scare you and feed off the energies you threw out when terrified.  Either that or it was the dweller on the threshold (which is basically your fears personified in the astral).  Both are basically thought forms I believe.

As for what you can do, I'll let someone with some more experience with this kinda stuff handle it.

couple things here.

you say you never did any practices? DO THEM, they will give you more control over what is going on, but keep in mind this might take a month or two before you notice any effects. Train your mind, train your energy, and train the body too as that keeps the other two going good. With control comes a loss of fear, with loss of fear comes loss of paralisis episodes, and with a loss of that comes a loss of that "man" taking advantage.

Also, practice these rituals:

This too will help quite a bit: (works for more than just "negs")

Remember when doing these you must chant and vibrate with your whole body the names, and you must have a clear head and a strong purpose and will.

Try not to be afraid Ghostgirl, that's the only thing negs want. Most are really not intelligent, and in all likelihood are just projections of your own fears manifested. Sort of like a dream with a little kick. It is a very normal part of projecting from what i understand, and since the science of this is still growing, as is the psychic potential of men and women, we have a lot to learn. Good luck. You're sort of a pioneer you know, going new places...
If but we knew the power of our thoughts we would guard them more closely.

Hey GhostGirl welcome to the forums.  Sorry you are having some scares there, hard to get past, believe me I know.[:)]

I wouldn't jump to the conclusion that it was a neg.  It is very natural for a person to get scared.  You said so yourself that "I was TERRIFIED of him, though he seemed harmless enough"

That is because you reflected your own fears, he wasn't there to scare you or suck out your brains, you got scared because any normal human being would be freaked to find someone in their bed.[:P]

Next time try and stay calm, I know easier said than done..  If surrounding yourself in the Divine white light eases your mind, do that.  I promise once you get past the fear of seeing strangers or hearing noises, you are going to have some wonderful experiences in the astral. [:D]

Good luck!

Although I have 0 experience from which to advise you , I wouldn't be so quick to label the man you saw as a neg or the experience as bad. certainly the paralysis is scary (i've experienced that at least) but nothing overtly bad happened during your encounter with the man. I'm wondering since you experience OBE's spontaneously, perhaps a higher aspect of yourself is causing this in order for you to explore the experience and learn.

Since you're there stuck in paralysis, you might as well  explore the experience in a calm objective manner instead of freaking out and trying to fight it, which doesn't seem to be helping you anyway. i know it is difficult to just NOT be scared, but maybe you could try dealing with it in a different way next time.

Good Luck.

Yea that happened to me a couple time. Needless to say, its a long story.

But to be perfectally honest, negs only attack when they feel you have something to offer.

My advice is to confront it. Negs for the most part are cowards

BOATS

I had paralysis today on and off about 5 times.  I could raise my astral arms but did not try to break it as I was trying to project.  I was not able to so I just lay in bed and listened to the voice chatter that did not make any sense. I did notice a white type ectoplasm that was beside me during all this.  As I stated before the simplest was for me to break sleep paralysis is to close my astral eyes, as your eyes are not really opened during these episodes anyway.  Closing tour eyes is the same as telling yourself to return to your body during a projection.  Good Luck.

GhostGirlyNY

For the past three years, I have been experiencing out of body and astral episodes against my will.  I go through periods of time (ranging anywhere from a week to several months) where they are rather intense, and as someone who is extremely unfamiliar with such experiences, I am often frightened.  Things have been fairly calm since the end of last year (with the exception of the occasional OBE), but for the last week or so, I have been experiencing paralysis EVERY single time I wake up.  I know that this occurs when the astral body has begun to separate from the physical body, but I cannot stand being in this state.  Each day, the paralysis lasts longer and longer.  When I wake and find that I am "paralyzed," I have no desire to do anything but come back into my physical body and wake up.  However, this is not always possible.  Just today, I woke after napping in a state of paralysis.  I attempted to move my physical body, but it seemed as though my astral body was hovering just above my physical body.  Now, I have experienced many sounds and voices while stuck between the two worlds, but I have never experienced what happened to me today, and I am SCARED to say the least.  I had astral vision, and when I looked to the side, there was a man, lying beside me in bed.  I was TERRIFIED of him, though he seemed harmless enough.  Who the hell was he?!  I "looked away" immediately and began to pray for a safe return to my physical body.  This has always worked in the past, but it was not working today.  I raised my hand and clenched and unclenched my fingers in front of my face, BUT I could not see my arm.  I could feel that it was in front of my face, but I saw nothing.  I tried to move my head, but it wasn't "waking me up."  I started to slide off of the bed.  I figured that I might as well have an OBE, since I usually return fully to my physical body after having them.  However, my astral legs seemed cemented to my physical body, and I could not move them.  Finally, I came back to my physical body, and everything seemed fine.  I proceeded to sob for a good ten minutes, though.  I am scared.  Why do these things happen to me?  I've never meditated nor attempted to experience any of these things.  What can I do, and who was that man?!
