Has anyone had any luck with this? I always hear people saying that they meditate and then project while on their backs, however, I am much more comfortable on my stomach.

Then project on your stomach.
There are no hard and fast rules other than be in a position that is comfortable for you.  ;)

justin35ll

yeah I've projected many times on my stomach.

Firmitas

good to know, thank you :)

the only problem is, since I am so much comfortable on my stomach I almost always fall asleep. But I have been noticing my dreams more and more and the point where I actually fall asleep. So im hoping to catch myself as I drift off and phase if possible.

Okay so even if your uncomfortable laying on your back, then just simply switching to laying on your stomach is okay? I wonder why then In almost all material Ive read on the subject they tell you to lie on you back hands at your side,  referred to as the Earth posture in Denning & Phillips book " Practical Guide to Astral Projection"
Because (and even though I haven't read that one) a lot of material relies on ritual, and the 'earth position' denotes some sort of belief system attached to it, like asanas, for example.  Depending on the views or cultures, there will be some sort of symbolic association with a position.
For example, there are positions that are supposed to facilitate 'kinds of projections' (like from the second chakra vs. a third eye projection)- I've tried some of them and only found out that it facilitated sleep paralysis- not fun, or that it facilitated nothing.  I think position is a personal thing- for me reclined is the best way, because my lower back starts to hurt if I lay flat for more than six hours, and I sometimes get asthma.  So the recliner is perfect for me.
Monroe thought at first you had to project from North to South.  After some time he figured that it didn't matter, and he stopped following rules like that.

Quotewith the energy chakras because They are located towards the front of your body.
My understanding of chakras (from reading other authors) is that they are in the center axis of the body, with a front and a back, not in the front.  Some believe that this is an interpretation based on ancient artwork, but clairvoyants I know don't agree.  I personally have only seen them once, from the front (on another person, not myself).  But I just want to point out that these ideas are not givens.

QuoteI don't know, I'm sure people who can project at will have no problem projecting from really any postion, but shouldn't a beginner practice in the postion of laying on your back?
I would say that it depends on what you're trying to achieve.  If you sleep on your back in bed, then it won't be conducive to successful conscious projection, simply because you automatically want to be asleep in that position.  I would say that if the object is to project consciolusly from trance, find a position that is comfortable enough to trance with (in my case, it's a recliner) but not so comfortable that you will pass out and go to sleep.  Unless you are trying to have a SILD, in which case I say happy dreams.

QuoteHave a lot of people been able to project laying on their stomachs? I'm curious?  :?
Only once and it wasn't awesome.  I fell through the bed, started going through the floor into the ground, and immediately shot up off the 'underground', which was extremely unpleasant.

Thanks, you make me sound better than I am.
I have been projecting pretty much all of my life, but didn't identify it until I was around tennish, when I told my mom what I had seen (and how it had happened).  She read up on the subject and later on gave me a few books to read that described my adventures.  I was able to put a name to my experiences but it didn't help me to make it happen on purpose.  So when I was in my late thirties a series of things started to happen to me which led me into looking at alternative religious viewpoints, and you could say that I had a few 'peak experiences'.  Later in my forties some really scary stuff started happening to me that made me think I was losing my mind.  At some point (this went on for years) someone at work  indicated that I should look more into AP, and something in my head clicked, that the experiences I was having may have to do with AP and that I should learn to induce it.
I looked into it and found three books, Leaving the Body by Scott Rogo, Buhlman's book (I forgot the title), and Monroe's first book, and they were interesting and informative, but only one of the Rogo exit techs partially worked.  Then I decided to search on the internet for the stuff that had been happening to me and ran into the words 'astral abduction', in an article by Whitley Strieber, in which he had interviewed Robert Bruce, and he described many of the things that were happening to me.
So I then got AD and MAP, and did the MAP program (the book version) and it helped me project consciously, and I've been doing it ever since.
I have not 'graduated' from any mystery school but have read many books about all kinds of 'occult' disciplines, and have Intro to Hermetics, but have not finished it- the only things that I have officially done is a couple of Robert Bruce workshops (I did the PAPI in the internet) and went to the Monroe Institute for an intensive workshop with Robert, which was a lot of fun.
Let's see, I learned to induce OBE around 1998 more or less, got 'better' at it around 2005, and have been tumbling around the forums ever since.

I had already answered this but the forum crashed or was backed up and my post went bye-bye; but what I was going to say is that of all the books and workshops, etc. what helped me the most was completing the MAP program (book version), because it taught me how to reliably project, and was the beginning of having a structured practice, and gave me tools to develop my own techs- all the rest of the stuff I've done would not have been possible without that initial training.

Do you remember what positions put you in sleep paralysis?

I've found that when I wake up in sp I'm actually already out of body but it just feels like paralysis because I dont know it and am trying to move my physical body. If I close my eyes(real/astral/etheric idk)I can get away from my body pretty easily. So if there was a way for me to induce proper sleep paralysis it would be very helpful.

Flat on my back most of the time, gave me SP for a time, sleeping on the right side gave me weird dreams-in my room also.  That stopped, so there may have been something else going on.  That lasted for like a year.

I WISH I could sleep on my back... but I'd have to sleep somewhere that isn't next to my gf.  LOL
Cause I generally start snoring, and she backhands me... >_>  :)

lol I was hoping you were going to have some special position like one leg out to the side with your toes crossed and a hand in your armpit.

On my back is when I get sp too.
