Hi there friends.     Here's my problem.   (I'm writing this on my blackberry so sorry for the weird grammer).    I have been going oob since I was 3 years old.  I can remember being in my car seat floating on the roof of the car.  I'm 29 now and between then and maybe my 27th birthday I have had 30 ish oobe s.    most with no or little vibration and none were induced by me on purpose.    I did not even know what was happening to me till I read monroes first book.  Without my mom handing me that, who knows where I would be.    But since my 27th birthday ish.  I have had 20 or more good oob s and a few were induced by me.   My problem is I need to know some good tricks on getting to the vibration state.  I am good at relaxing and can lay in bed fully awake so relaxed that in fills like I'm laying in a huge empty million square foot ware house.   But from there I don't know what to do next.  Since my first induced oob, I now have a hummin, pulsating  sound in my head when I lay down at night and start to relax.  If I consintrate on the sound it gets louder.  But that's it.   The only thing that works for me at the moment is to just skip the relaxing and push the sound out of my head , pass out normally, and hope I relize I'm dreaming and can wake up just enough to hit the vibration state. (which happens like 1 time every 4 months ).  Any ideas on how to use the sound or the relaxing to get to the vibration state and or any better ways of hitting it from another angle would be great.    I have the gift,   I just need help controling it better and more consistly.   Thanks

Xanth

Relaxation
Relaxation
Relaxation...

If you think you're relaxed enough, you're probably not.  ;)
Work out all those kinks in your body, where ever you think you're not 110% relaxed... then, go back over the spots over and over and over again until you stop thinking you're relaxed and *ARE* relaxed.

Relaxation is the key to all of this.

Ahh.      So maybe I'm relaxed mentally but not physically, I think I will re think my relaxing technic a bit,     and if you don't mind,    could you run me through your bed time ritual,     when you plan to go oob,    like for me its,     I lay down in a mostly darkened room, head to the north, feet to the south, (if that matters ). Then I try my best to relax and after I do, I focus on the pulsating hummin sound in my head (kinda weird.   I know)then  I try to fall half asleep.   But not too much .    And somtimes it works.    Most of the time not.      Any feedback would be awsome.     Thanks again

Lighten

try in the morning for best results. Preferably before you normal awake time.

Like lighten said most people find mornings are the best. I also find that taking a mid day nap induces them very easily if you happen to fall asleep making the attempt you are usually awake enough to notice the slightest change. If I fall asleep making an attempt mid day I usually snap back once the vibrations hit. As far as physical relaxation goes I know Im relaxing the right way when after a few minutes my muscles start to twitch. That shows that my conscious mind is slowly letting go of bodily control, and after a few minutes of that the numbness starts to creep in. Another thing I want to mention is rather than only trying during a certain part of the day every time I lay down I attempt whether I am going to sleep or whatever. Then when Im waking up as long as I wake up without moving Ill make another attempt. Then if I have time before work Ill lay down to nap, and make an attempt. Upon waking up from the nap if I havent already projected Ill make another attempt. So on a good day Ill get around 3 - 4 attempts in.

What TL and Lighten said.
Don't bother trying to OBE before bed... 99 times outta 100 you'll just fall asleep because you're so physically exhausted from a long day.
I only meditate before bed... just to clear my head of the days events.

In any case... yup, physical relaxation is as important as the mental relaxation.  You can still get the trance state while not 110% physically relaxed, but you'll find yourself locked in your body, unable to get free.

When I do attempt my OBEs, I generally do the progressive relaxation method.  Whereby I focus on each body part separately and try to get it as relaxed as possible before moving onto the next body part.  Nothing too exciting.  It also has the side benefit of keeping my mind busy.

Wow.   That's me totally.    In a trance state,     but locked in my body.    I might try going to bed early.    I stay up till 130 ish on most nights.  Anyone have any imput on the best time to hit the hay?

I agree with what Lighten, TL and Xanth have said.

Individuals vary; you'll have to discover your own specific triggers and timing, but what they have shared are good guidelines.

TL makes a good point in suggesting that the more attempts you make, although unsuccessful at the time, the attempts also serve to program your sub?conscious as to your intent to OBE, so that when the proper time does arrive, you'll be better prepared/programmed to respond to the opportunity. Personally, I have found this a very important component.

Also, I find it's not so important what time you go to sleep as the amount of time you sleep. You need to make an OBE attempt when both your body and mind are rested, but not completely rested; especially the body. Like Xanth said, trying to project before a normal night's sleep is very difficult except maybe for very experienced projectors. Your physical body just drags you down into sleep like an anchor and your consciousness along with it.

So the idea is to sleep maybe 2/3 or 3/4 of your normal sleep cycle and then make an attempt. That way your body is rested but not so completely that you can't return to sleep if you wanted to; and your mind is rested sufficiently that it can still control and direct your attempt. You can try staying awake for 15 minutes to an hour and then making an attempt, or you can immediately roll over and back to the edge of Slumberland, I've had success with each. It can take ten seconds or an hour to get results...just try different timings.

I would have to agree that being fully relaxed is probably the most important thing. I use to practice bodybuilding for a few years and was able to learn a great deal about muscles and posing. I would recommend reading a bodybuiling books to learn about every muscle group and learn how to flex every muscle properly. This will help you relax your body 100% and you will definitely feel a big difference.

A agree. That's what I like about NEW / energy work. It forces you to spread your awareness throughout your entire body, muscles, tissue, organs, etc. You really become familiar with your body's processes, especially as it's relaxing and falling asleep.
