Hi, My name is matthew, I am 20 years old and I have been experiencing a very strange sensation just as I start to awake from sleep I can see my whole room like i am walking around it, I am heading for my door but I feel almost paralysed. my legs are wear and I can only just open my eyes to the point that I am squinting almost and my head is tilted back so I am facing the ceiling and I cannot move my neck.. This is a horrible feeling but could this be the start of astral projection?

I know there are alot of things posted on here about sleep paralysis but everybody seems to still feel like they are laying down during this experience and i feel as though i am standing up and walking around my room, i do not experience any vibrations i just struggle to try and free myself like i am being held in that position. Please help me out somebody i really want to know if anybody else has experienced this? or if i will be able to leave my body during this experience and if so how?

Hi Mattie.  I have narcolepsy and have had sleep paralysis a bunch of times.  It is not fun.  I don't know how much it is related to astral projection.  More symptoms can be feeling a pressure on your chest, like a hand is pushing down on it. Also there usually is a feeling of a presence, like someone/something is in your house coming to get you.  I have once even heard a loud buzzing.  It is maddening, as you fight to move your body yet you can't.

When I was younger I had many experiences with sleep paralysis, I would wake up but not be able to move my body, I would try to scream for my mother but I could only barely whisper and wiggle a finger or two.  I started to get used to the feeling but then it happened once where my room was all bathed in red light and I saw shadows running around.  It really freaked me out.  I think that was my last time.  A few times I think I was having an OBE but I didnt know anything about OBE at the time.  My mother always said I was just dreaming. Heh!  Although frightening, these are great learning experiences.

Next time it happens if you can control your fear, you are basically in a perfect "body sleep mind awake" state that sounds like its perfect to OBe from.  I am trying every day to achieve this state from meditation!  You are very lucky :D.
