I think it's been said on this forum before already, but sleep paralysis IS a form of astral projection.

Same here. Each time I project I am not paralyzed, just in a deep trance until I fall asleep and then wake up to the sensations of projecting. But only once I believe have I ever felt my body actually paralyzed.

I got it a little bit when I was a kid. I had a bit of a string of it at age 17 which was when it was super freaky and I had no idea what it was or anything about AP...I actually thought my house was haunted.

Then at age 20 I started getting it frequently again. This was right after I had my first child which triggered SP for me because having a young baby meant that my sleeping patterns were suddenly irregular and I was waking up a lot in the night. This was when I started researching about what is was and found out it had a name "sleep paralysis" and I learnt it can be a way "out-of-body"
Tried it that same night and was successful the first time.

Now, at 24 I have my second baby but rarely get sleep paralysis anymore even though she wakes through the night....maybe my body is too used to irregular sleeping patterns now.

Same actually.  When I first did OBE I often felt paralyzed. In my opinion it made it easier to leave your body because the body was asleep. Now I can move my body if I want, but I try so hard not to because I know even the slightest movement makes the process stop. It's really quite crazy. I remember a few times waking up, vibrating like crazy about to OBE but due to an uncomofrtable sensation in my leg I moved it and the vibrations gradually faded out while I was fully aware. creepy!

Everyone passes through an SP phase as they enter REM state, several times a night. Most people are never aware of it. For the small percentage that do, on occasion, become aware during the event, if you can control your emotions SP can be used as a kind of AP exit.

It's not really a technique, per se; it's not something you want to aim for; rather it's a condition to just file away in your studyfile and maybe take advantage of if the opportunity arises.

What you should be training yourself for, is to be on the lookout for opportunities, wherever they may arise. You are looking for a singular mindstate and I'll bet you all have experienced it many times, you just didn't know what you had in front of you.

Look for this mindstate as you slide into or out of sleep at night, or an afternoon nap, or middle of the night or early in the morning. Different factors affect this and we honestly don't know or understand them all, plus, guess what? We are all slightly different. And it varies.

urshebear-

Episodes of SP often come in clusters for a year or two, and then disappear for up to a decade, then return in another cluster. So, it's no big deal, just be aware of the possibility.
