Title: thinking too much
Post by: spiral_out on June 27, 2005, 14:39:09
My experience w/ AP has been limited.  The first couple times I did it, the vibrations came on naturally as I was drifting to sleep.  Now that I know what I'm doing and what AP is, once I start to drift, I think, "Here we go", but then I wait and nothing happens.  I wake back up so to speak.  I can feel light vibrations, but nothing like the heaviness of my first AP.
So I guess my question is, should I be doing something more specific to help me break through, or should I not be thinking it at all and just let it come naturally like before?  I have a real hard time sleeping after these failed attempts.  I've had to take sleeping pills to get me to sleep.  And I don't like to take them.

try a mental rundown. just build a scene in your imagination and participate in it. try to use as much sensory input as possible, ie taste, smell, touch.

sooner or later you will make the "switch" and be inside your rundown. then have fun!

Well, just a suggestion, but if you can realize that your body is just a vehicle and that you are the passenger, realize "I am me, not my body" and don't get hung up on thoughts. Our brain is part of our body and we don't need it to think. That sounds nuts, I know, but we're able to think outside our bodies, right? Talking from my experiences (please don't flame me, skeptics) I know that we are souls living temporarily in bodies and can leave them and have crystal clarity and coherence outside of it when we do. That's also true regarding posts you find here of abilities to see through your eyelids. You can see without your eyes and hear without your ears in the right state.

Also, you might try to focus on a destination as a reference point. It can be as near as 8-10 feet away, imagine standing in that place you want to be. A farther destination is preferable for some reason. It can be anywhere. The nearer to our bodies when new to this seems to be a bit trickier, least that's what I find.

Lastly, if you're tired after an attempt, could you have been physically relaxed enough to AP to begin with? Ask yourself if you're trying to use physical energy. You need to be just on or over the sleep barrier to AP, zero physical energy being expended. If you're awake and manage to AP, hats off to ya. Never knew anyone to, maybe some dude in Tibet who's been meditating for 40 years. AP is so simple and easy we don't really believe we can do it at will, sometimes even if we do it often. Just not that easy to do it next time, or next time. That seems to be the catch. Total control is my main objective and I'm still a looong way off. A couple weeks ago, I was out and was floating back in. I thought it would be good practice to go in and out a few times so I wouldn't forget how to do it. On the third time going out, I could raise my head and feet, but couldn't get my butt off the couch. Then, I gave up and crashed. Just have to say "another time..." Trying too hard to AP is like trying not to AP. Hope all or any of this helps. Relaaaaaxxxxxxxx.

I will try to remember your suggestions and implement them.  I had the vibrations again last night.  But I was caught in my thoughts and began lucid dreaming.  Is the time to get out during the vibrations, or once they've subsided and you are dreaming?
