OH. EM. GEE. I was just meditating and I started using the classic rope technique... and I started getting vibrations. I've been into this forum for about a year now, and have just now bothered to make an account because of this experience. I wanted to believe in this, but it went against what made sense to me. So I tried it, and I now know this stuff is sincerely real. Any tips for n00b?
Just keep practicing and you will get there :)
stay relaxed and stay focused :)

There are also things to be said about the vibrations, but no need to confuse you yet.
Keep trying, it'll happen. I was always really interested in AP but was unable to do it for a loooonnnggg time, and started to doubt the reality of it as well. But then I came at it from a different perspective and wild things started to happen, just like you. I kept at it and I was out within a couple months.
Thanks guys, for the words of encouragement and advice. I'll keep trying till I start APing!
In my opinion, noone should be conditioned to believe that it takes months or years to have OBEs only because it has taken some people that time.
Key in my opinion is the correct focus. If the correct focal point is attained, one will succeed day 1. If he finds himself in the correct focus by accident he will succeed aswell.
Projecting isn't like learning an instrument, it is like looking for a lost key with blindfolds on.
kind regards,
Paul
I agree with Tiny, though I don't think there are many people these days in the western world who already have that fine tuned of an ability to focus.
Nevertheless, don't let my story make you think that it has to take a long time. It was my fault that it took so long, I had to learn through trial and error what was holding me back and I wasn't willing to accept that. For a long time I thought the problem was with the techniques I was using or whatever, I never wanted to look at my experience and learn from it.
We tell them this because an individual needs to be prepared for such an event.
You *could* get it on your first attempt.
You *could* get it on your millionth attempt.
You *could* NEVER get it.
The idea isn't to prime yourself for many months or years of practicing...
The idea is to prime yourself for the experience.
I tell people to just never give up.
Giving up ensures they'll never do it.

Agreed. If you never try, it will never happen.
Although, sometimes it is the "not trying" that has led to some of my most interesting experiences. Just think of how many people have never even considered the idea or would think you are the spawn of Santa (sic on purpose) for even considering such an idea as "leaving your body", etc. Just the thought that you will pursue this puts you leaps and bounds ahead of the pack - DONT STOP NOW!
Practice and experiment. Play with meditation. Pay attention to your dreams. Journal your experiences -you will forget them or skew the experiences with time.
I personally subscribe to the belief that everyone "projects" whether they recognize it or not. Learn to recognize it. I'm sorry but, aren't we all just "projections" of our higher selves anyway?
Hi Personalreality,
Thanks for your post. I have been reading about AP only recently and I am glad to have read your post so soon after it piqued my interest.
I was so eager to test out your methods that I went to have a nap. I let myself drift to sleep normally (and thankfully this only takes about 2 minutes). Then after a bit of time, I slowly awoke and tried to sink myself into a trance, without really trying. I had to make myself aware of certain sensations in order to not fall asleep again though. While in the trance, I noticed my heart was beating VERY quickly and I heard the ringing in my ears. It was not a consistent sound, but it sounded like many different tones. I was unable to have an OBE, but I did try the wiggle-technique of raising and lowering the essence of my lower arm (no physical movement). I am not sure if it worked though. I did notice whenever I lowered it back into its physical self that I would experience a buzz in that extremity. It was not uncomfortable by any means, but it was a very interesting sensation. Is this normal, or was this just something my mind manifested of itself?
I'd love to hear some more stories of people's first experiences with this. I am going to try again tonight, wish me luck!
