Was this an initial astral seperation stage?

I had a real hard time sleeping two nights ago. So I woke up in the morning and I'm just dead tired. I went back to sleep but consciously stopped at the hypnogogic stage. I then consciously intended to go OOBE. I do absolutely no drugs or alcohol (except for Zoloft, taken 8+ hours before). The following happened:
1) Strong hissing sounds (like on jet engines without the lower bass sounds)
2) Random visual patterns started forming (eyelids were closed)
3) Hissing got louder and louder
4) The tingly/lightweighty sensations increased
5) I got scared and aborted it.
6) Opened my eyes and saw wholesale color saturation of my bedroom (like in photoshop) overlaid with animated transluscent wavy lines
7) Moving my physical hand felt weird, like there was a slight slow motion effect
Soon everything returned back to normal.

Whatcha think guys? I've had this happen even before I studied AP.

Yup, you nearly had an OBE but stopped just before you exited.
There's nothing to be afraid of, nobody has ever died from OBE.

I know thats easier said than done though

Agreed.  If you kept going you may have been able to separate.  Do your best to control your fear.  Eventually you might actually come to enjoy those sensations.
