Title: what is that creepy "being watched" feeling?
Post by: sstonevenuss on August 14, 2003, 23:44:57
just reading the first few lines of your inquiry, i knew it was an alien thing...it is just like that. obe for me is recognizable to the soul for what it is.   alien abduction, is too. abduction, or encounters are frightening.Anything "Against Your Will" is frightening and difficult to accept. obe is all about Your Will.

the very first time i saw them, i had a girl friend staying the night, (i was about 8 years old) at bed time she refused to go in my room and demanded to go home. she did. I woke up in the middle of the night and rolled over, opened my eyes and saw all these farmers and thier wives standing around my bed. I felt very special, i was chosen, they were there just to see me.

years later, (i was about 18) i walked through the living room and saw the Communion book on the coffee table... understand, that after all that i have been through growing up experiencing the unusual times 100, i am not afraid of science fiction, however, the instant i saw the alien face on the cover, i blacked out and hit the floor.

my mom rushed over to me, i came to, and said what the hell is that?

she grabbed the boOk and said don't read it, it's too close to home.

well, i read it, and a lot of it was right on. like your experience, very common events. The farmers that i saw were aliens described in the book as the ones that do the work and wear overall type suits, and the wives were the taller thin ones that are in charge.

aliens...are they an obe experience or something alltogether different? for me, they are a problem all thier own. obe are a good thing.

i saw my last one just 3 months ago, in my bed with my husband, i am in the habbit of taking a good look around when i wake in the night to be sure i'm alone. It was standing against the door, it was there long enough for me to hear my breath draw in and then hear myself scream out loud, enough to wake the nieghborhood. my husband jumped up and it vanished. that was the first time in my life that i was not paralized while seeing them in my own house. ever. ( besides when they have me somewhere else doing something with or for them, in what seems like an obe condition, but clearly to me, is not.)

hmmm... well i'm not quite ready to label these experiences alien visitations, just yet.  i'll explain what i had researched after that second scary experience, so you'll see where i'm coming from.  ok, i looked online for info on alien abductions, to compare my experience.  then i ran across an article saying that some alien abduction experiences that people report may not be actual alien visitations.  see, there is a state called "sleep paralysis", that people have been experiencing throughout history.  it is where the stories of incubus/succubus come from... when someone wakes up paralyzed and finds this terrifying creature, like a demon or hag sitting on their chest, err, raping them.  but sometimes people will see other creatures or things while in sleep paralysis, and not necessarily having sex with them.  then i found an article that led from this subject to OBE's... it was saying that OBE'ers purposely try to induce this state in order to have an OBE, and it gets less scary after experience.  also, in this state, sometimes OBE'ers will experience crazy noises and hallucinations, like colors and stuff, and like i said, there tends to be a feeling of being watched.  OBE'ers see all kinds of weird "creatures" all the time in this other realm.  anyway, people who aren't trying to have OBE's can accidently fall into this state, and when they find themselves in it, they freak because they don't know what's going on, and of course, it makes matters worse when they see astral creatures messing with them, which increases the feeling of dread.  so some people mistake these experiences for alien abductions.  geez, i hope this is making sense.

anyway, i am in no way saying that alien abductions are not real, or that they are not similar in experience.  i believe aliens exist, it seems absurd to think that in a vast universe of infinite possibilities,  that we are the only ones.  i'm not trying to invalidate anyone's alien experiences or anything.  but i do kinda agree that maybe not all alien experiences are aliens... this world is full of so many mysteries, and i'm sure that there are beings in other planes or dimensions or something that we've never seen, so they seem alien to us, even though they may always be here.  but really, i'm not expert on anything, since all i've got is my probably very inadequate research and my 3 experiences. so we'll see what all the experienced OBE'ers out there have to say on the subject.  for all i know, you could be right.  but i don't really feel like i've been visited by aliens... even during that second time, i just made that assumption, but they just sat there and stared at me, they really didn't do anything to me.  and that first experience i had, there was no one around, and what i meant by "against my will" didn't necessarily mean that i was fighting against it, but i hadn't been making any conscious effort to float, and i found myself lifting, to my astonishment.  i'm very confident that the 3rd experience was an OBE... i got up out of my body, made some attempts at flying out of the room (which didn't really work... i couldn't get very far past the ceiling), then came back down and walked over to my brother and tried to wake him up.  then i went back to my body, which was lying there, in a sleeping bag on the floor, and hopped back in!

you are right on track! if you "feel" that it was not alien, trust yourself first and always, then it was not.

from your futher description, i would definately say yes, it was an obe...you had the ability to explore the room, by your own free will.

as far as the watchers go, i have seen so many different and interesting beings...each experience is different, and sometimes there is a guide who actually takes you on an adventure, or just sits with you and is there watching.

my most recent "visit" was more of an awake dream, i was not out of my body, but could see people in my room, a number of them took turns sitting with me and visited, some spoke, some just looked and left...

sometimes i feel these trips are not always for me, but at times i am needed by others, so it happens as if i am called to be there for them.

one night a something pulled at my blankets, i held my hand tight around the edge at the top, and it pulled again, then the bed shifted as it crawled up on the bed! i had to counter ballance to keep from rolling over, it curled up on my legs. i was so scared, i was wide awake, i opened my eyes and standing right there in my room was a fully solid indian in a loin cloth holding his left arm out to the side as if to be protecting me, or blessing me, or even giving me this gift of whatever it was on my legs. felt like a baby bear. he had straps around his wrist and elbow holding up a string of feathers fashioned like a wing...anything is possible. I especially appreciate your statement about possibility...it is infinate. and acknowleging that swings the door wide open to experiencung it. A.

Maybe it's because we're being watched all the time indeed, but when we're there it is more notable.

I do not think that we are actually being watched when we get this feeling, though maybe some are who knows. I think it is the fact that usually you are raising your consciousness, expanding it, and you are becoming more aware of your environment when you AP. With this hightened consciousness and awareness you can perceive yourself in a different way. Because your perception is different you feel a little insecure. The insecurity mixed with your new perception gives you the feeling of "being watched" when in fact you are not.

hhmmm... that makes sense... thanks for the input!  hopefully i'll have some more experiences so that i can see if i get used to my heightened awareness and hopefully that feeling will go away.

ok, i've only had about 3 OBE experiences, but i noticed in each one there is a feeling of being watched, usually by something ominous.   my first experience, i didn't know i was having an OBE.  i just woke up, and saw my room so vividly clear and as it is in "real life", and found myself paralyzed.  i didn't see anyone in the room, but i felt like there was this presence, staring at me, and it was very scary and, uh, not friendly feeling at all.  then i found my body lifting off the bed against my will, except for my head & neck, which stayed on the pillow.  i woke up, and thought it was just the most mind-blowingly vivid dream i had ever had.

years later, i was lying in bed and suddenly felt a terrifyingly scary presence immediately, and i could see my dark room around me, but not very well because there were all these colors swirling around in my vision and i could hear these whispery, swishy noises.  i was paralyzed, and through the colors, i could see these small, childlike dark figures standing around me, at least six of them, 3 on each side (which was weird, considering my bed was right up against the wall).  i figured that that evil staring feeling was coming from them.  i didn't know i was having an OBE, and figured they were aliens come to bring me to their ship and err, probe me.  i was terrified, but then i got angry that i should be so helpless and that they could do whatever they wanted to me.  i wasn't about to be an easy victim, and i started to struggle and tried to speak and tell them to leave me alone, but of course i couldn't speak, so i thought it at them, since supposedly aliens are telepathic.  eventually i managed to whisper "leave me alone" and i broke out of that state.  the experience was so scary i did some research and found out that it was an OBE (or the start of one), not an alien abduction.

anyway, the third experience i had was after my research, and after having read a book about OBE's.  i was staying at my brother's apartment, and i was totally exhausted after two nights of getting hardly any sleep.  i woke up from some disturbing dreams, and i was on my side, thinking about my dreams.  i felt like someone was behind me, watching me, but i just kinda laughed at myself because i was letting my dreams creep me out and make me paranoid, like after watching a scary movie.  i just laid there and tried not to let the feeling get to me.  i continued to think, and then suddenly, an electric shock ran through my body.  i was like, "oh sh*t!  i'm having an OBE!" because i remembered that the book i read stated that sometimes you feel a shock go through you and you get "zapped" out of your body.  so i got up and explored the room, but didn't have too much of a feeling of being watched (perhaps i was ignoring it in my excitement).

i had read somewhere that during OBE's, there is almost always a feeling of being watched.  why is that?  are we more paranoid in our astral bodies?  does it always feel like an ominous presence?  do you really always feel it, or does it eventually just go away?  what do you think this presence could possibly be?  it seems to come from nowhere and everywhere.  i'd like to hear some theories from everyone, especially more experienced OBE'ers, since i'm still a newbie at that stuff.  thanks!
