Why Can't I remember

Let me just quickly say that I have remembering more and more OBE's lately. The only ones that I have had are when I am not consciously attempting an exit, instead I am drifting back into sleep and enter a dream like story line that I end up putting on hold to manifest things around me and just have fun. I would still like to put more awareness into these episodes, and so I am trying to to project consciously instead of first undergoing a lucid dream and projecting from their.

The biggest problem I face is that when I lie down and relax, and start to drift off, I completely forget what I am doing. I know I want to AP but I can't for the life of me remember any of the thousands of tips people have suggested to me. Maybe because there is so much information that I have read it is hard for me to process when my mind starts drifting off. What is a good description on how to simplify the whole thing?

This is your problem right here. When we "attempt" to OBE, we don't lie down relax and drift off. That's what you do at night when you go to sleep. Try this, go sit in a comfortable chair, relax, release, let go and stay conscious. Don't drift off, allow yourself to stay aware.
When you awaken in SP you are already there. All you need to do is understand you are in SP, which is the hardest part. But once you do, you just project.
It's much harder from a Consciously Aware method because you have to get to that launching pad before you can "blast off" and that takes a focused will and intent.
You should do your projections in small intervals. Staying out of your body for a minute or two at first will give you full memory recall. Staying out of your body for an hour, not so much!
Good Luck and Safe Travels!  :-)

Lionheart said it very well.  If you try to ap in bed I would advise you to go somewhere else other than your bed.  When I am in bed I drift off.  It is very easy to drift off particularly when you are in bed.  I lie down on a very thin mattress in another room.  It is not comfortable.  If it is too comfortable I will most likely fall asleep.  I still have to concentrate in what I am doing otherwise I can drift off.  It is a lot easier to ap away from my bed.

Agreed. Or stay in a posture you are not used to. As for example arms on your side,  laying in your back, and legs stretched.

For me, if I stay in that position, no matter how long I stay there, I will have to change to my side to be able to sleep.

^ above. One thing to add if you wake up after your AP even for a second force yourself to get out of bed if you can. You can also try to end it before it's over, after the first 15 seconds and get out of bed. Stay up for at least 10 minutes and recall what happened to store to long term memory, use a voice record if you have one or write down what happened immediately.

^ It's funny that you mention that. One of my last OBE's that I pulled from a dream I have this faded memmory of a man telling me in a very serious manner that I needed to end the experience soon so I could recall it properly. I knew he was right but I was like "Heck no I'm having way too much fun!" I suppose a little self control is need of practice.
