Hey, there. New to these forums but have been interested in astral projection for a long while. Decided just recently to try it out. I've had sleep paralysis only once that I can recall, I was about 10yo (19 now) when I woke up in my bed and realized I could not move, not even open my eyes. I freaked out, not knowing at all what was happening, jerked awake and banged my head on my headboard. lol..
With such little experience with sleep paralysis, lucid dreaming or even AP practice is it possible for one to get very close to an OBE?

Here's my experience, happened a couple nights ago:
I turned everything off and got in bed, making sure to get as comfortable as possible. I had read on an AP blog about how clearing the mind and focusing on only the ringing in ones ears can narrow the consciousness just enough to slip into the hypnogogic state while remaining aware. I had attempted it maybe 3 times that night before I realized the images in my head were becoming much more vivid- which I only ever see in dreams. Every time one popped up I just ignored it and focused on the ringing. After awhile I noticed I was getting butterflies in my stomach and my fingers and toes were starting to tingle. I thought to myself "Holy sh*t. This could be it" And attempted to slowly open my eyes. Now, I'm not entirely sure about this next part but I THINK I was opening my eyes in the astral. I could see a couple shapes, though they were what I would describe as fuzzy. Not blurry, but fuzzy. By the time They were 1/4 the way open, My physical eyes started opening, and I woke up.

Is it possible to project with such little experience in the matter?
If this was what I think it was, what did I do wrong?
Absolutely any tips would be greatly appreciated! :-D

When I was new to this, whenever I hit the "Holy sh*t, could this be it" thought, I immediately lost whatever I had gained. There was so many times that I thought, "here we go" and then was left with nothing. I quickly learned from that error and moved on. You just want to passively observe and let what happens happen. No expectations, just get con fortable with the "signposts" and persevere. You never want to open your physical eyes though, your Astral eyes (Pineal Gland) are always open. You just have to relax your physical eyes and let the 3rd eye take over.
Yes you can project with little experience, you do everynight as you sleep already, you are just not consciously aware of it. It's trying to replicate what you do over and over again that is the hard part. There is so much info on Phasing/OBE around now that it tends to confuse the experience. Just keep to one technique for now until you feel comfortable with it.

Want to update, had another small experience just this morning.
I downloaded that SOBT pdf, though I don't quite remember where I heard about it..

So I attempted to follow the directions to the letter. I tried to wake up exactly 6 hours after falling asleep, but due to a strong internal clock, I woke up an hour early as usual. I thought, "no big deal" and tried to fall asleep. Easier said than done  :| . After laying in bed wide awake for 2 hours, I ended up getting frustrated and giving up for the day. I didn't want to be one of those "stubborn novices" the book speaks of so many times in that first chapter so I flipped on the T.V. and Ghost Hunters was on. I watched one episode and something about all that whispering must have brought me subconsciously to childhood memories of gentle whispering from my parents and put me right to sleep. After waking 3 times I remembered to try the techniques. I began rubbing my "dream hands" together and almost instantly I felt as though I had been thrown out of a plane. I can only assume the resulting tingling, butterflies-in-my-stomach feeling is what everyone vaguely refers to as "the vibrations". Unfortunately it startled me a bit and I was not able to hold on and focus on my hands, though I was able to for much longer than last time. I don't expect anything, but with practicing as much as possible all this week, I hope to have my first OBE by the end of the week! :-D
