When i was young i would always have weird dreams and didnt find out that i was actually astral projecting until a couple years later. I was describing these dreams to a psychic and she told me what was actually happening. I completely forgot about it until about four months ago when it happened again. I was taking a nap and i felt like my body was floating and i heard buzzing noises, almost like the tv was fuzzy and i remember opening my eyes and looking at the tv and once i realized i was projecting i got scared and came back to my body. When i woke up i got so excited and researched everything i could about it. I have been trying to project now on and off for a couple of months but i always get to the point where im about to leave my body and then i lose focus and it wont work. I gave up trying and then yesterday i put on a movie and was going to have a nap on the couch and i remember feeling waves and hearing buzzing and i didnt really recognize it at first, i just thought i was dreaming but then everything was black and i had to open my eyes. I kept hearing voices and couldnt see any people around and i finally realized that it was my movie playing in the background and that i was projecting. I was super excited and began to fly around. I flew through about four houses just looking around. I wanted to explore so i flew over highways and noticed a carnival that was ontop of an overpass. There were these stuffed moving bears and these dragon rollercoster rides. Every once and a while i would get tired and start falling, but i would try to fly back up because i didnt want to stop. I eventually fell asleep and when i woke up i was so intruiged. But i dont know why i can do it when im not trying but everytime i try nothing happens.

Consider an athlete or an artist.

When they get in "the zone" (which is a type of trance state) they don't think about what they're doing, they are in the moment.

The same principle holds true for projection and lucid dreams.  When you are attempting these types of experiences, trying to hard will keep your mind too active and you'll "make mistakes".  When you're not trying you let your mind sink and your focus is narrowed to a point, this is when you're successful.
be awesome.

I guess im just afraid that i will fall asleep if i stop concentrating. Is it normal to project when your not trying to or not even planning to?

Hallo
To reply to your question --- Yes, it Is quite normal for a person to go out of body without trying. It is called spontaneous projecting or a spontaneous OBE. In fact spontaneous projections are probably more common than deliberately induced projections. Actually if a person puts in the effort to have an OBE and then falls asleep, as you did, then it is much more likely for him or her to go out of body later that night. Actually that seems about right, you did the work so you should get a result, even if it happens when you are asleep.
