Thanks for the review, samsara! [:)] I've read a number of books by the Dalai Lama but will look for this one by John Powers.
Very besy,
Nick
My library doesn't have it. Do you have another reccomendation? Something deeper than Buddhism for dummies, but also something that isn't a religious treatise?
hey sorry to get off the subject but my neibor spent a year or two with the dalai lama i dont know why but hes good friends with him now theres pictures everywhere in his house with him and the dalai lama just thought to let you know[:D]
Hi,
I wouldn't describe this as a dummies guide. It is a far more educated approach and describes without preaching. It is more like a description of the different branches and beliefs. I found it helpful to decide which branch was best suited on a personal level while giving a overall picture of how it developed. I think it helps to know what branch you are personally drawn to

Have you asked your library if they will try to get this book?
Hi,
This is a good book for academic study if you are wanting to find out more about tibet, it's history and the difference branches of tibetan buddhism and beliefs. I think it was quite expensive, though. Maybe best for those who deeply feel inclined. It is by John Powers.
