I agree, it's a good book. I'm a Christian, but I think that any belief that attempts to bring peace and understanding to life and death is one that should be somehow applied to everyone, regardless of religion. I liked how it gave a basic history of Tibetan culture to help you understand the book more. It's a good one!
This book is one I read back in '96 or so. It was a great help, as my father was dying of cancer at the time. There was a particular Chapter, I think it was Chapter 11, that gave advice on helping and comforting others who were in the process of transitioning from the physical. I thought it was the right book at the right time. Very thoughtful and well written. It doesn't matter whether you subscribe to any particular creed or not.
Yeah, I came across it while in grief and it pointed me in the right direction. I connected with the picture of guru rinpoche and it somehow felt right to persue the path. I feel grateful that Mahayana buddhism exists and says anyone can achieve enlightenment. I knew I could never follow the path of a monk[:D] Regardless of your beliefs it still could open doors.

I have seen this mentioned on the forums and thought it deserved a review. I came across this book a long while ago and found it to be very comforting and easy to read. I cannot consider myself as a devout buddhist although this book did provide me with a basis on which to build on. It is well worth a read. It is by Sogyal Rinpoche.
