False awakenings involving getting ready for work and actually starting the work day are worse. I have them when unusually stressed. There have been false awakenings, though, which have led to lucid dreaming. That is not so bad.
I am not prone to false awakenings. If I'm shooting for a lucid dream and I find myself in my bedroom after spinning or something, I try to remember to perform a couple reality checks.
I know what you're talking about, Tom.
Back when I worked, I would have night-long dreams about work. It would drive me crazy. The only was to describe it was "it hurt to think".
WOW! That would completely shake me up too! Tell yourself to have some fun false awakenings instead.

Cainam: Did the rodent thing affect you in any way besides the initial weirdness that kept you awake? Hostility? Curiosity?
I'm asking because I remember waking up to a spider web type of thing descending on me a few times in the past.
I once caught myself about to go to work in my nigh clothing. I walked through a door and realized I was dreaming and aborted the dream. Some hours later I seemed to have the same dream and decided to play along to see what happens. I thought I must be dreaming and exited my apartment. Seconds before I closed the door I realized I was actually awake and not dreaming at all.

I hate when I confuse reality like that. It has the possability to create a few problems.
As far as the rodent/s. I didn't feel anything from them but I was rather fearful when it happened.
Just for a quick update, I haven't seen any rodents for a few weeks now, but still have a couple of false awakenings every so often.

Cainam: Hee. I can relate. I'd be wigged out to see any rodents in my bed. I had a mouse in my room once (live on the third floor. Can't figure out how it got there). I kept waking up to this insistent little scrabling so one time I quietly got up and flicked the light switch. There was a teeny little mouse in the middle of the room feet spinning like there's no tomorrrow trying to get to a safety. I caught it in a trap (non-lethal) and released outside.
Luckily I've caught myself before any serious blunders. One day I'll wake up at work probably and boy is that going to end in tears...

you know what's even worse than "waking up" to start your work day, when you are really just asleep? waking up and going to work in a dream when you don't have a job in the real world, then waking up for real and starting to get ready to go to that job because you think you are late! lol! and THEN (after you realize it was a dream) you even start thinking about how much you made on your paycheck in the last week before realizing it AGAIN. happened to me once.
my brother had something similar years before me: we were just sitting around one day, when he said "d'oh" out of the blue. apparently he'd thought he had a job as well. funny as heck.

Secret of Secrets
Friday, August 30th, 2002.
That was the first time I have ever experienced this that I can remember. It was the oddest thing to wake up twice in a 30 second window.
The first time I awoke I got the feeling that I had been sitting there for some time. I had a smoke lit and I was sitting up. It was calm, peacefull, I felt as if I had no worries.
But much to my suprise this small furry thing jumped from what seemed to be my shoulder, across in front of me, and scurried under my blanket. My first thought was that there was a rat or mouse, a large one. This was when I awoke for the second time. The appearance of the rodent cause a rather bothersome startle.
When I awoke the second time I was laying down as I should have been and sat straight up. I very quickly begain to look around for the rodent. But then I realized that it had wings, like that of a dragon fly. Since I have never seen a real animal like that I felt that it was safe enough to stop looking for it, I most likely never would have found it. But I did decide it was a good idea to make sure I didn't have a smoke burning that I didn't know about. I found the pack where I left it, across the room, well out of reach. and I didn't find anything smoldering in my bed either, so I figured it was safe.
I tried to go back to sleep but found that I was unable. I could not shake the feeling of that thing being there. So instead I rented some movies and sat around for a couple of hours before I had to go to work.
I really didn't care for that experience and hope to avoid it in the future.
