:) Hi, all, I am new to this, but am befinning to try to attain LD, I remember doing it when I was younger. Can anyone give me some basic suggestion's? I am wearing a blue bracelet on my arm, am trying to remember to ask every time I see it" Am I awake or asleep"?.
Hi feisty
The blue bracelet is a great idea - stick at it. Some people find that they ask the question "Am I dreaming?" every time they look at their watch, because we look at our watches very regularly throughout the day. Asking regularly (say, every 15 minutes or so) is good because eventually you will remember during a dream to ask the question, which hopefully should get you to lucidity.
Of course, the key thing to this (in my opinion) is that you MUST clarify that you are either awake/asleep properly and thoroughly. It's so easy to look at your watch (or bracelet), ask yourself, "am I dreaming?" and then say to yourself, "of course I'm not, I'm totally awake" and get on with your day. This is because the exercise can get awfully repetitive and boring, but if you start doing this - guess what happens? - during sleep you'll remember to ask the question, but your answer will be "of course I'm awake, don't be silly," and the dream will continue as it was. So in effect, you've achieved what you set out to achieve, but blown it by answering the question "sloppily".
Every time you ask the question, look around, check that everything is where it should be, really take a couple of minutes to satisfy yourself totally that you are awake.
The other thing which really helps is to start a dream diary. Write up every dream you have, no matter how small/silly. Then think about your dreams throughout the day. If you perceive dreams as night-time "stories" and nothing else, this won't help. Start seeing your dreams as special and interesting and worth spending time on.
Finally, another good thing is when you are lying in bed at night before sleep, get yourself nice and relaxed and say to yourself (in your mind) "I remember my dreams, and will become lucid during them tonight" (or whatever words you wish to use). Really mean this as you say it. You could even repeat it over and over as you fall asleep.
I can't say doing all this will guarantee success, but it certainly works for me. Especially the dream diary part.
Good luck and let us know all about it when you get lucid - it's well worth the effort.

Saying things and asking myself things doesnt really work for me.
I usually realize I am in a dream because certain aspects of a dream
just dont work within real-life physics. (Like opening a door you know
that leads to a room you know, but it ends up in the middle of a field).
There are subtle and not-so-subtle give-aways for this. If you just
stay semi alert, you can notice the fact you are dreaming pretty fast.
The problem with things like your bracelet is, the chances are that you
have a mental image of the bracelet that is pretty strong and alike the
real bracelet, and therefor it could be hard to differentiate between the
two...
Cheers
hallo everyone. This is my first post
about realizing that you're in a dream... unreal things don't work so good for me. The only thing that so far has somehow (no, i can't quite say that i have LD 'ed fully) are repeating dreams or symbols or things (a la: a familiar car or a house I've dreamed about sometimes before.). ..
But the problem with LD is, that each time i go to sleep at nights, I'm trying to observe my awake-half awake-sleep conditions. And at some point when something familiar appears in the half dream stage, i flinch or startle. And the next thing, of course, I'm awake. The flinch or startle or whatever u call it thing seems to be happening subconsciously...so it's hard to control it (well...seems impossible). If anyone cares to comment...then please. thanks.
So Lucid Dreaming is basicly this:
You are dreaming
You are aware that you are dreaming
Now you can controll the dream?
I think I had one this morning. I woke up i was still tired, and I went back to sleep in like a second. Then I was dreaming, , sometimes when I think I hear my self think in my head, i know this sounds weird, but sometimes I have conversations with my self in my mind its hard to explain; anyway I was dreaming and then I just became completely aware, and the voice basiclly told me your dreaming only the voice was loud, then I opened my dream eyes... and then my mom came in the room and turned the TV on and it was loud and it woke me up

I had the same problem with phasing. After doing it a few times, the startle goes away.

Just starting myself. And I can completely relate to what you are saying. I had the same thing keep me up all night/morning (night shift worker). Every time I would drift off to sleep, I would realize that I was sleeping/dreaming and instantly flinch and wake up. Very frustrating. Hopefully it goes away, as was posted earlier.
Fiesty, that is a good technique, it should do ok. There may be times within the dreams when you don't have the bracelet. But, upon seeing you don't have it you may ask where it is, which will probably also trigger you asking about the reality you're in. If you keep up that technique you should have no trouble. Just remember, attaining the state is only the first step to success, and the first time will most definately not equal every time. You may only have 1 or so a month, perhaps less. And when you attain that state you might simply have some fun, but it could be short lived and you probably won't discover any life long truths about the universe. Most likely it's going to be a stepping stone to an OBE, if you're lucky. And yes, luck does play a role. I've had 1 lucid dream in which I actually induced it myself. All others have been by utter chance. Might not be the same for everyone, but it's a possibility for anyone. Knowing how to do it is the step that is given to you through, thank god, the experiences that we can learn from others. But once you attain it, what to do with it and where you go, including how far you take it, is all in your hands. Just keep doing what you're doing, and good luck with it not if, but WHEN you achieve it.
